Magnumb Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 How can I tell if my A/C compressor is working? The outside end bell is not spinning. Do I need a new compressor or just a recharge? They want $139 for a charge.
bobcat5544 Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 There is many different thing that can cuase your problem. To verify if it is the compressor the easiest trick is to unplug the low pressure switch and jump the termanals. If the compressor kicks on then most likely you are low on freon. If it doesn't then there are other tings to check.
Magnumb Posted August 1, 2007 Author Posted August 1, 2007 I am not sure how to jump this compressor. Do I take the elec plug out of the compressor and put a wire between both conections with truck is running.
frdfandc Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 No, there is a switch built into one of the A/C lines. Its probably near the compressor. Unplug it, start the vehicle, turn on your A/C then take a paper clip and insert it into the plug of the switch. This will cause the A/C compressor to engage (if its working correctly). If it does engage, then your low on refrigerant, if it doesn't engage, then you have other issues.
