No Bass With New Speakers

I swapped in a set of infinity reference 6.5's not long ago. I've noticed that there is very little to no bass response with the speakers.

 

I do have the bass turned nearly all the way up on the radio. What's the deal here? The factory speakers sucked on the mid/high's but had bass. Now it's reversed---no bass but crystal clear mids/highs.

You can blame the stock radio for that. Most aftermarket speakers sound like crap being powered by a radio. They shine when you hook an amp to them.

I have a heck of a time tuning the radio in my truck and its all stock. It has way too much bass, with no mids or highs... I manually adjusted it so that bass is all the way down, treble is all the way up and mids are right below that.

I did the same to mine. It just seems like the radio system is crap in these trucks without the Bose system or redoing everything aftermarket!

the factory speakers are matched to the radio power wise. when you add aftermarket speakers they need more power that the factory radio can not provide. time to add a amp!

It's got nothing to do with your head unit...The reason you have no bass is that the factory speakers are designed to reproduce the entire sound spectrum and aftermarket speakers are designed for specific frequency response ranges. The trade off for having a response range as large as the factory ones do is obviously loss in quality across the board. The highs suck, and you'll never get more than a little bass out of them.

 

If you look at the documentation for your new speakers, I'm sure it'll tell you what the range is on them.

 

Components such as Infinity are designed to work as an integral part of a larger system. Preferably one with a subwoofer or at least a mid-bass driver. They won't reproduce bass because they're not designed to.

You can always buy 3-way or 4-way door speakers. Those speakers are designed to produce bass, mid, and highs.

 

The factory CD player DOES have some to do with the terrible sound of the after-market speakers though.

Just an FYI, any speaker with more then a tweeter and a woofer is a gimmic sale.

 

3-way, 4-way, i have even seen 5-way coaxials....they do absolutely nothing that a 2-way coaxial can't do.

 

Also, sometimes crappy bass response can be caused by cancelation and standing waves. A simple fix is to find a small piece of egg crate foam (that stuff you can use on your bed to soften it up) and glue it to the sheet metal directly behind the speaker inside the door.

 

This can fix ALOT of response problems.

when i got out of my gtp that had a full pioneer head unit/ 4 -6x9's + 2- 6" infinity door speakers, my new z71's stereo sounded terrible!! so i went with a custom box under the back seat of my truck with a 10" Alpine type R and a 800 Watt amp, everybody thinks that to have a sub and a amp you need to be rattling windows, with my stock head unit, stock speakers, and my sub and amp, i turn heads with my truck, you can tune the sub to very high or very little bass, whichever floats your boat, bye far one of the best investments I've ever made...

Yeah i wish i would of had my camera with me. It was at a flea market in north Tulsa. They were 6x9's and yeah...they were absolutely rediculous. The dude selling them was trying to tell me they win SPL competitions in cars without subs and that they could blow out windows if they are turned up too high.

 

The guy quickly shut up shop and left when i showed him my MECP cert card.

Meh, it was one of those bored sundays during early summer that did it in for me. Also my buddy is in to ricers and they tend to sell super cheap ricer stuff so he wanted to check it out.

 

 

I regretted it the second i got out of the truck.

you will definitely need to amp your aftermarkets you can add an amp to the factory with an RQ or hi low converter it cost around 25.00 it will allow you to run rca to front and hook up at factory you should get an immediate difference make sure it is an amp that is good quality
