I want to get one in the next day or two and I was wondering what the best one is. I want to recalibrate the speedo for bigger tires and get the best economy possible.Also, are these things pluged in and forgoten about or do you program and then remove? Thanks for any input.

I myself have the predator. I have no complaints. The newer the truck the more the programmers can do. Most guys on here will tell you "custom tune only" and that hand helds suck. I noticed hypertech offers a new money back garauntee if not 100% satisfied. On their newest model. Anyway I went with the predator because it is "custom tunable" over the net and has enough adjustments to keep you happy if you prefer what the stock tunes (performance and 87 tunes) offer. I ran the premium tune until gas went goofy then tuned back to 87 octane until premium is a little more affordable. Neat thing is while adjusting back and forth tunes it will keep your tire size and trans settings between tunes so you don't have to keep fooling with that part. Of course this is all my opinion and experiance. Others may vary. I've had as high of milage as 18.9 and as low as 14.0 depending on weather wind and driving habits.

I have a hypertech PPIII on mine, and I love it. I mess with it everynow and then and it recalibrates the speedometer. I love playin around with the shift points, and you can choose your fuel grade. You can also read and clear your Diagnostic trouble codes. and it only takes a couple of minutes to put it on or take it off. But as far as MPG goes..I can hardly tell a difference to be honest.

Mileage claims are going to vary the most due to the individual driver rather than the tune they run.

 

I should also mention the most popular "tune" is going to be the custom tune. In fact, somebody should be telling you to go this route any moment now... And well, you can search for all the hundreds of posts regarding that. But for the handhelds, that poll should give ya good idea.

YOu want the best, Hands down, HP tuners...... Preprogramed handhelds are garbage in my oppinion, every truck is going to react differently to a handheld generic program due to elevation, temperature and tons of other variables.

I have the Edge Evolution, you probably saw the post on it. I guess the reason I went with it was the monitoring function was an added bonus to the tuner. It's nice having an instant digital reading of vital engine functions, especially while towing! Good luck in your quest...
