are there any differences in a 4L60E from behind a 4.3L V6 and a 5.3L V8?

my trans has decided to retire after almost 180,000 miles and I can get a low mile replacment but it was in a truck with the 4.3 V6. will this hold up to my 5.3?

thanks

Jamie, you mean your trans went out at only 180,000 miles? I guess this just further solidifies how sorry our tranmissons really are. Man, you can buy a new Tundra and from the looks of their ads, it's monster 6 speed should last at least 1,000,000 miles or 6 months whichever comes first. LOL

If the used trans you are buying has been sitting unused for awhile, I would suggest a filter and fluid change.

Good luck.

the only thing I have forund so far for a difference from the V6 to V8 trans is the V8 uses a different torque converter.

I replaced the transmission in my 95 Sub with a GM rebuild. It comes with a 3 year/80,000 km GM warranty (parts and labour), even though I installed it. I have 20,000 km or so on it now, and I am very happy with it. The price was very comparable to having mine rebuilt at a transmission shop - and I have nothing negative to say about the tranny shop I normally deal with. With the warranty, I couldn't justify having mine rebuilt.

I know there is a differnece between 2 and 4 wheel drive trannys. The other thing would be the change ups that have been done over the years. With yours being a 5.3, it will be a 2000(?) or newer. I would probably want to stay in the same vintage if you were going to buy the one from the 4.3.

That said, for the amount of work involved changing it out, I would be tempted to go with something I felt comfortable with once it was installed.
