Here is picture I took a while back of an 8.1L with an ally getting ready to be installed in a vehicle.

Wanna try to guess what vehicle it is headed for?

I think this should work.  I'm pretty sure I could guess what this assembly is going into, but that wouldn't be fair.  I want to see if anybody else can figure it out.    :D

Thanks Kyle...

You'll have to PM me and let me know what you did to make it work.

No, its not for a HD truck.  Notice the park brake on the rear of the Allison...HD trucks don't use that.

Chevette?

If it is a Chevette, I want one :D .

I'll go with Greg's guess--motorhome.

Workhorse motorhome chassis?

Somebody cheated and looked at my pictures! :D

Yeah, the engine assembly is for a Workhorse Chassis.  We offer this powertrain package on RV chassis, commercial (Step-Vans), and school & shuttle bus chassis.

Be careful of picking a race with a late model bread truck as it maybe packing 340 hp and 455 lb ft of torque along with 4.63 gears.  These step-vans with this engine and gearing will literally spin the tires from a dead stop without power braking and move out just as fast as a HD truck.   It is funny to watch the look on people’s faces when a big boxy step-van smokes them off the line.  We are also offering a Cummins 3.9L turbo 4 cylinder mated to the LCT1000 as well for commercial vehicles which also moves out surprisingly well once the turbo spools up.

Nah, your hint about the brake jogged my mind.  I'm glad Class-A gas RVers have a choice other than the F*rd chassis and V10.

We'd like to get a handicap Class-B van motorhome in a few years and the combination of this engine and the demise of the Dodge van will improve our choices of a GM-based product.  Now if GM could just cram a Duramax and Allison in the G-van, that would give us even more choices.

Greg,

You’re in luck Greg, as GM will offer a Duramax/Alley in a G-Van this fall…sorta of.

The new C4500’s on up are based on the G-Van sheetmetal so that means the Duramax will be available in G-Cut RV’s. I have already seen a few of the new C4500 prototypes sitting on a RV body company’s property last time I was the Elkhart, Indiana area.   The bad news is that this combo will only be available from GM on C- class motorhomes…not B-Class motorhomes at least not in the next 2 model years anyway.  The Dmax will also will also be available on our A class Workhorse Custom Chassis but not until the 2004 model year though.  We will be the only the only RV stripped chassis provider of Class A front engine diesel RV chassis at that time.

If you are in need of a handicap accessible RV, you may want to check with the major body builders (Winnebago, Fleetwood, National, etc.) and see what they have to offer.  I know these body builders can custom build pretty much anything you need on both A and C class motorhomes.  Sometimes they even have special mobility packages for handicap accessible coaches at a fare price.
