I got my new 07 NBS silverado. this is the first vehicle i have actually owned. I leased all my previous cars. So i want to keep it in good shape and was wondering what wax and or sealant do you guys use? I live in the Phoenix area so uv protection is a must

McGuires (sp?) Gold. Paste wax in the Black and Gold can.

That's what I have always used, but with my new truck, I got my dealer dealer to throw in the "Auto Butler" program for $99. So, I don't have to do it for 5 years!! Yippee.

MEGUIAR'S products are very good. I have a cabinet full of them and a PORTER CABLE random orbital to apply them. I still use them on my wifes Trailblazer ("Fine cut" and "Yellow wax"). I'd compare my detailing jobs to any "professional shop".

When I got my '07 Silverado LTZ crew cab, it had been sitting on the lot for several weeks. It needed lots of TLC that the dealership pre-delivery car wash didn't address. I removed all of the decals/emblems and clayed it, then machine polished it with MEGUIAR'S "Fine Cut", no wax. It looks like glass now. This winter, I'll use ZAINO on it for even better results.

I've used ZAINO exclusively on my Corvette, applied by hand, only. It's an entire different way to think about auto paint protection as it's not a wax, it's more of a paint system sealant. If you check out their website, it'll be confusing and a little scary...don't be scared off by the steps or products available though. It goes on very easy, leaves a terrific shine w/o hazing/swirls and lasts a long time in AZ climates.

I use all Meguiars products. The NXT wax is very nice but the paste is a better choice IMO. The liquid doesn't seem to haze up completely and you have to buff it out two, sometimes three times. This seems to be true of a lot of liquids. Do yourself a favor and buy a DA polisher like a Porter Cable 7424. It'll save you lots of time and energy as well as give you what I think are superior results. You can also use it to buff out scratches and swirls should you get them.

Before you wax your truck the first time, wash it and then clay bar the truck. A clay bar is a polymer based clay that will remove any praticles and contaminates embedded in the paint. It may not seem necessary on a new vehicle, but these trucks can sit on lots for months at a time, plus they are transported by rail and trailer where they can pick up rust particles. Then wax it as soon as possible as the clay will remove any wax.

Another tip, the bottle or can of wax may say to use a terry cloth towel--DON'T! Use microfiber towels available at any good auto parts store. Terry fiber towels are not soft enough, nor are they very aborbant, and can cause swirls in the finish.

I used the Zaino All In One for protection and evey other week I use Eagle One Nanowax. It is a spray on wax that is by far the easiest product I have ever used and leaves a GREAT looking shine. +1 one the microfiber towels.

+2 on the Zaino (http://www.zainostore.com/). It's extremely easy to use and does an excellent job. I've been using it for the past 6 years. The only thing I don't like about Zaino, is it's a little pricey. I had been scared to try anything else, but a friend of mine (who lives in AZ) and is more anal than me, just tried stuff from here: http://www.lanescarproducts.com/ and said it produced better results than Zaino, and for much less $. I've ordered some and will hopefully get to try it out this weekend.

I use Nu-Finish, in the orange bottle at any auto parts store, probably at Walmart and K-mart. I've used all kinds of stuff, Meguiars Gold Class and NXT tech, both really good, Dupont Teflon, PITA to rub off, thought I would rub a hole in the paint, Turtle Wax Ice, No good in my opinion, feels like it would wash off. The Nu Finish seems to hold up very well. I put 2 coats on like the directions say to. I like the stuff.

I just ordered some new stuff and I will let you know how it works. I got poorboys natty's paste wax and natty's red paste wax(sent as an accident but glimmerglass said I could keep it) and optimum opti-seal.

:) I use The Meguiars Deep Crystal System. I skip the paint cleaner and cleaner wax since my paints still brand new but I use the Deep Crystal Polish, Then NXT Tech Wax, and a Nice top coat of the Deep Crystal Carnuba Wax. Leaves an awesome shine becuase you get the deep warm glossy shine of a Carnuba with the protection of a polymer base right underneath it.

You can't go wrong with Meguires or Mothers, but I used Liquid Lustre now. Meguires NXT is nice, but like most waxes is a pain to buff out. Liquid Lustre comes right off. It protects awesome. Its a good metal polish to, and it removes bugs and tar easily like other waxes don't. Hard to find in stores, but its on Ebay, at car shows, or you can get it from their site.
