Transfer Case Leak Part 2...

I have a very slow leak on my transfer case on my truck. I took it into GM today, they said it'd be $890 (parts/labor) to repair it- it is a series of gaskets, seals and an insulator needed to fix the leak. The parts costs add up to $229- must be a h#ll of a lot of labor to fix it! Anyway- I wanted to see if you guys had had a similar issue, and the best way to fix it. Can a "no leak" product like golden eagle transmission leak stopper fix the problem, or is it worth the $890 to get it fixed by GM? What to you think?

Thanks,

Matt

It is a hella lot of labor. If you goto www.dieselplace.com and read the posts concerning "pump rub" in the drivetrain forum you'll find a ton of information on this problem and answers to your questions about how far you can push it. There's no genie in a bottle that will fix it. It gets worse the longer you drive it.

Take it to an independant shop and get an estimate. I bet it will be cheaper.

I'll second that! 900 bones is worth a trip to a independant!

Mine leaks where the U-joint is attached to the t-case. Is that were yours is leaking? Mine is VERY slow drip, so I just drive it and change the fluid regularly.

On my 1500 suburban, there was a small split down the drain plug thread. Obviously from being over tightened. Drain, clean and JB weld. Clean and dry for two years. Five Bucks.

Could you not get a used transfer case for that price? SR
