07' Silverado 5.3l Bogs Like Hell...

Maybe someone else is having this issue...

I have an 07' Silverado with the FlexFuel 5.3l engine. The only mod's I have so far is a K&N Aircharger (part #63-3058) and a Gibson dual-extreme exhaust system. The biggest issue I'm having is at low RPM... the engine seems to bog down pretty bad under WOT. Once the RPM's reach around 3,500 the truck takes off like I would expect.

Before any mod's, I could literally light the rear right wheel up "at will" from a rolling start (no posi)

I have 3:42's for gearing which I want swap out for 3:73's and a locking diff.

If anyone else is having this problem, I'd love to hear from you. Any help and or suggestions would be awesome! :spam:

Free flowing exhaust (less back pressure) will cause you to lose some low end power. I suggest getting a tuner, I have the Edge Evolution and it helps alot. My exhaust is still stock, but I have a GMPP CAI and am probably going with a Magnaflow muffler (no catback).

If you change gears, go to 4.10's. The low end power will be much better and th emileage won't be much worse. I wish I could have gotten mine with 4.10's but I didn't want the NHT Max Tr pkg because I couldn't get the 20" wheels with it.

Keep in mind, most of this lag is due to TM though and short of getting a full-blown HP Tuners or EFI Live tune, you are stuck with it. But the Edge does improve it significantly by improving the shift parameters. Downshifts are quicker and firmer.

Thanks Jeff. I was a little surprised about the Aircharger and thought the truck would do a better "re-learn" after the swap. The truck bogged down some after the Aircharger but seemed to worsen with the Gibson exhaust, where I thought it would help.

I put a VaraRam CAI on my 02' Z06 and the performance was absolutely incredible. I thought it would be somewhat comparable for the Silverado. I guess I was wrong...

Thanks again for your suggestions!

No problem, for a more thorough write-up on my opinion of the Edge Evolution, see this thread (post 64 and 68):
