Where Is The Thermometer Sensor For The Temp In The Mirror Located?

It has been HOT here  ! My thermometer on the mirror is fairly accurate when driving on the freeway or on surface streets with infrequent stops. If I sit at an intersection for just a few minutes it can go to over 120 degrees quickly. It is over 104 here today in beautiful San Diego, but unless I am moving the temp reading is just not worth looking at.

Where is the sensor and would there be a better place to put it. My 2001 F-150 does not have nearly the issue as my new Sierra does with the temp reading being that far off.

I believe the thermal sensor is under the passenger side front bumper correct me if I'm wrong. Weather wise I'm about 1 1/2 north of you in San bernardino and its 107 degree.

on my 06, it's under the driving light assembly just above the bumper. When looking at the bumper, the top cover starts to turn down at the edge of the grill and the lights. There is a black plastic liner between the bumper and the lights. The sensor snaps in perpendicular to the front of the truck and faces the grill. Wish I had a pic.
