What?! Another Shocks Thread?

Okay I looked at all the threads on shocks and here goes- I was told that the factory GM shocks are great shocks to replace the old ones with. I have 126,000+ on the oem and I have beat the crappers out of them with the loads over the last 7 years. A buddy swears by monroes, the ones with the oil in them. Said they are around 70 bucks. Bilsteins and a couple others are about the same price. I like the GM smooth ride so what do I do? Go with OEM or what? I do plan to load it up alittle, not with as much as before or the freq. Standard hight with a smooth ride is nice

What do you all think?

I think you are going to feel like you bought a new truck when you replace 126.000 mile shocks... REGARDLESS of which brand you go with.

Try a set of Monroe GasAdjust. Smooth riding and good control and they won't break the bank. I put a set on my 350 miles per day company Explorer and the difference in smoothness was huge. You can get them through O'reilly, Advance, etc. Most AP Stores have them. Nothing exotic but they really seem to work well.

Christopher, I would suggest you consider the Bilstiens or KYB Monomax if you plan to keep the truck. I really have nothing against Monroe or Gabriel but they are just not considered to be premium ride control products like Bilstien and KYB. But, they do not cost as much either. Both these brands are superior in their engineering and will provide better overall control and will outlast anything on the market.

+1 on Bilstein IMO they keep their ride quality longer than other brands

I will agree that you get what you pay for in most instances. In the case of Bilstein, you get a name but not much else according to everything I have read. (go read the stuff all over the web about them) Too bad... Bilstein was once a great product. KYB is a premium product and well worth the asking price. The Monroe shocks are mid level product and not very expensive. I was considering the fact that he got 120k plus out of the factory shocks. I guess it depends on how long he intends to keep the truck.

Bilsteins for the win! autozone carries them for $60 each....love the new ride...old OEM shocks had 134k miles..new ones are superb

WOW for that price how could you go wrong?

BTW... my earlier post wasn't intended to cut down Bilstein. They have received some unfavorable writeups. I've read a on the internet that they are overpriced for what you get, not necessarily a bad product. My text didn't look like that was what I meant after I went back and reread it... Sometimes companies start overpricing their stuff just because it gets popular. For $60 a shock they sound like a bargain.
