Check your owner's manual. It ha ssomething to do with making transmission shifts (Auto) easier and smoother.

I did read about it in the manual, but in use I see no difference what so ever.

It alters your shift pattern, raising shift points to higher RPMs and uses OD less, depending on engine load. Trust me, it works wonderfully when towing.

When in tow/haul mode you should have a light on the cluster light up and shift points will be higher & firmer . If there is no light & driveability difference you should take in under warranty.

I towed my enclosed Wells Cargo trailer full of lawn equipment yesterday for the first time with Maxine and had her in tow/haul. With the 6, she was so smooth, I mean you can feel rolling resistance stopping, but definitely a noticeable change from Big Blue.

What exactly does the Tow/Haul mode button do?

I've tried it in town, on the highway, up hill, down hill, no difference?

Hook up a 5000 lbs trailer to your truck and then tell me there's no difference! LOL, I've never tried it without a load, but you sure can tell the difference hauling some weight! As previously mentioned, it will rev to higher RPMs before shifting to the next gear, and does not use OD as much (really cuts down the hunting for gears). I've also heard it will hold a lower gear when decending under load as well, using the engine as a brake, but have not had an opportunity to experience that yet. Anyway, it may not be noticably when your truck is empty, but there is a significant difference under load!

i can tell when im using mine with no load. the trans shifts harder between gears, about 500-750rpms higher

The tow/haul mode definitely provides more engine braking, which is very useful. I've also read that using the tow/haul mode increases trans cooling, I imagine by circulating fluid faster due to higher RPM. Can anyone confirm this? Also, the 06 model comes with Dexron 6 fluid, which seems to have lots of great properties, but does this result in the ability to run hotter without degrading?

shifts will be higher and it will lower your rpm redline basically. also it will find the best gear if you let of the gas at low speeds it will snap into first and not dog around in 2nd or 3rd obviously depending on the speed it never seems to go under 2 grand unless your off of the gas.

Dex VI is a full synthetic and it will certainly withstand higher temps compared to dino fluid. However, if you will be doing any serious towing you need to make sure your truck has an aux trans cooler. Even with the OE cooler, you may want to consider upgrading it, depending on the climate where you live. You can search this subject on the forum and you should find a good deal of info. If not, PM me.

x1

x2, but it definitely makes a difference when pulling...

I know it eats gas, but I like using tow-haul mode in traffic, it shifts at higher rpms, as people have said, and it allows more engine braking on deceleration, as in traffic you need all the time. Obviously, as above, it makes towing much better with the different shift points, etc.. I just wish it would stay on when you shut the vehicle off, as when towing long distances, every time you shut off for gas or whatever you have to push it again or you find out the hard way going up an on ramp that you forgot - then you either push it or push the gas harder... not a big one but just a little feature I wish you could lock it in...

    • You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
    • Diesel hit $6.00 here today at the truck stop.   Payed $2.79 for E85 today too.
    • Thanks for posting, I'm sure it will help someone
    • New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?
    • So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.
