Corsa Exhaust Is On It's Way

Well my Corsa exhaust is on it's way. My question is should I use an exhuast sealant where the pipes are clamped together? I checked the Corsa installation manual and there is no mention of using a sealant at the fittings. Maybe it's not required with the special clamps they supply. I also used to use it for ease of disassembly on past exhaust systems, but the Corsa is stainless so again maybe not required.

Anything else I should be aware of (tips, tricks, etc.)? Looks to be a simple installation and I plan on doing it myself.

Next is the tune (thinking Wait4Me tunes on an SCT w/ perforamnce, towing, and economy tunes). This is so addicting.

Let us know if you can discern the shift from V4 to V8 an back once you have it installed! I'm seriously considering this exhaust, but like the fact I hear no difference between V4 mode and V8 mode with the stock exhaust!

The install of the Corsa system is crazy easy. The install should take you no more than a hour. If you want to, you could add a little bead of red high temp rtv at the joints. It would make taking the system apart a little easier if you needed to. But it is your call on that. I didn't use any rtv on mine and have had no probs yet.

On my Corsa sport you can definitely hear the switch. The V4 mode sounds very...odd.

I'm going to be replacing the Corsa muffler with a borla or magnaflow muffler soon enough as the truck is just too quiet but I like the rest of the system. I'll be making sure to disable the AFM with a computer tune to save myself some headaches.

Okay, now I'm more confused! Some say they hear the change, some don't, is it a difference between the "Touring" and "Sport" that make the difference? If I get the Corsa, it'll be the Touring because I'm looking for a freer flowing exhaust to help while towing, but don't want a loud exhaust. Anyone actually have an opportunity to experience both and can provide some insight?

I have a Corsa Sport side exit kit, and a Diablo Sport tuner. I can tell you that there is a little differance over stock on the sound of your truck inside the cab. I have had a magnaflow part #16741 and it sounded very bad IMO. If your going to go aftermarket, then Corsa is definetly the way to go. I could not be more happy with the sound. The install took about 1.5 hours. the hardest part was removing the old system.

One tip I would pass on is, I used anti-sieze on the hangers and it made it much easer to reinstall the rubber grommets.

I have also spoken to them before I installed the system and they said not to add any sealent to the system and also to becareful not to get the anti-seize on the pipes because it will tarnish them.

The people at Corsa are top notch, I had a noise after the intall, I told them that I thought that it was the expantion joint and they sent me a new head pipe that day. It fixed the problem and have had no issues since.

Good luck, :shakehead:

I can't tell you that cause mine is an '06 which pre-dates AFM. I have read that Corsa designed for the V4 mode.

Thanks for all the input. Sounds like no RTV per Corsa and an easy installation that I can do in my driveway.

If you tow campers, heavy trailers you [and your wife] will appreciate the Corsa touring when you get to pulling up long hills.

Both touring and sport are straight through systems. Should be no difference in performance.

Have a great day,

Don

After some searching I went with the touring system for that very reason. I tow a 4k lb boat as often as I can. Glad to hear I have another in agreement.

I wonder if the "odd" sound in V4 is related to 6.0L motor compared to 5.3L?

I finally got around to installing this system (Corsa side exit touring) on Saturday. Here are my impressions:

The install was very easy. The hardest part was getting the old system off in one piece. It is hard without a lift, but do-able. Best bet is to jack from the frame to drop the rear axle. This makes wiggling the stock system out in one piece easier. The supplied nuts for the header pipe flange are not of the best quality. They are a bit soft and you need to be careful not to strip them. This is especially important considering one of the nuts is in a tuff location. Other than that everything else was very easy and straight-forward.

The sound is a little bit quieter than what I was looking for, but not far off. It does have a nice growl when you put your foot in it and no drone what-so-ever at cruising speeds. In fact with the windows up on the highway it's as quiet as the stock system. Give it some throttle and then you hear it. I haven't towed the boat yet with it, but that's why I went with the touring edition because I heard the sound of the sport can get annoying if you tow a lot. I can say there is NO discerable loss of low end power. I can't say there are any definite performance gains without a dyno, but I definitley didn't loose any performance. I also haven't racked up enough miles to tell you if there was any change in mileage. A buddy of mine with the same Corsa system on his Avalanche swears he gained about 1 MPG after he installed it, but I am skeptical. I'll try to remember to report back on any MPG change once I get enough miles on it.

Overall I am impressed with the factory pipes. They are not mandrel bent, but the bends are quite minor and the pipes appear to be free flowing. If all you're looking for is a bit more growl and a more open flowing muffler then welding in a new muffler allone (like a Magnaflow) would be a much cheaper option. Would I buy the Corsa again? Definitely, but I just thought I'd throw that in for someone that doesn't want to spend the $ on a Corsa system.

I'm with ya on this system, nice sound and good build quality.

I was previously in a mess having installed a Gibson Dual Sport that had a terrible 4 cylinder drone when the AFM engaged. I got tired of waiting for Gibson's Warranty department to deliver a promised fix for their error and purchased the Corsa side exiting (dual tip) sport system and am absolutly satisfied. The hangers on mine weren't in exact alignment (as were the Gibson), but with a little wiggling and give and take - it fit. I really have to listen hard to hear the 8-4 transition, but when it does it's not aweful by any means. I also switched to Royal Purple synthetic at about the same time so not sure which is the contributor but have gained about a mile a gallon in my regular driving. Last fill up I checked my around town driving (work week) and I was averaging 18.1 mpg on my 5.3 liter.

I have the Gibson replacement now sitting in my garage, anyone interested??

    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
