Gmpp Cai Install Pictures And Review

Well I got my GMPP intake Today and as soon as I got it I was in the garage bolting it on.The directions were very accurate and was a very simple install overall. The only tools you pretty much need are a 1/4 ratchet with a 3 in. extension and a 1/4 socket and a 8mm socket. I looked over the parts before installing checking for defects and everything is of superb quality. The only thing that I didn't get as in most pictures of the intake was the red filter, mine arrived with a white one but it will be easier to tell when to change it. you have the option of keeping the restrictive air flow gauge by drilling into the intake tube, but those things suck so I didn't use it. The whole install including opening the box looking everything over, getting all my tools together, taking my sweet time and cleanup took be about and hour and a half. I was surprised when the first time I started it there is literally no intake noise and if there is I can't hear it over my exhuast. Performance is too soon to tell but I can feel a quicker throttle response. Overall very pleased with it, even if it doesn't help it looks d**n pretty under the hood. Here are some pics enjoy

Great review and pics! I can't wait to get mine and get it installed! How does it seal to the fender well? Do you reuse the fowm seal, or does it come with it's own? Also, can snap a pic with the engine cover back on, just curious how it looks when it's all buttoned up!

It comes with a new seal for the fender well. I was a little mad becuase my box was full of packing peanuts and on the double sided tape the foam had pieces of peanuts all over it but it stuck on just fine. And yes I can get another pic tommorrow so you can see it.

Same comment here on those d*mn peanuts! Also, I don't remember the instructions telling you to put the foam on, but it was pretty obvious.

Heck,I had mine bolted in and installed and then realized I forgot to put the foam on!!

Did they give you any part numbers for replacement parts? Having trouble getting a new filter and new foam for mine. I called my local dealer couldnt help. GMPP couldnt help me out. All the part numbers that came with my instructions are not in either system. I have about 3 to 4 hours on trying to track these parts down. Hope I dont have to buy a new kit to get a new filter. LOL Can you give me your part numbers for the foam and air filter maybe they are now different as my kit is about a year old. Thanks for all your time. Other than not being able to get replacement parts this kit is great.

Replacement filter for GMPP CAI part# 17801346 for 1999 - 2007 is 88967643. Dont know what the foam is. You can probably make one from a large piece og foam.

AEM makes a DryFlow filter that will fit as well, it's Part#: 21-2059DK. They're oil free, reuseable, and have a lifetime warranty!

As much as I like my TrueFlow system, I have to admit that I wish I had the GM set up. If for no other reason, it says GM right on the top and that means something to me.

I agree, I like when things are actually made for my vehicle and look like an upgraded stock piece. I like to stay as close to stock as possible, one reason I haven't replaced the deck in the truck.

 

In a world of modified vehicles, stock is sexy once more...LOL

lol, "stock is sexy" I'm more of a custom fabricated or one of a kind is sexy type a guy. But Paul58 I didn't know that the AEM is usable with the GMPP CAI, when I need to change my filter i'll get that for sure

My only gripe was the Cai was a tight fit and lately the chrome top has been hitting the fender and rattling at every bump. Also if you tighten too tight the chrome top will chip. And I did'nt use the larger foam piece.

Do you still have the foam piece? If so, I'd pull it out and install it with the foam, that will probably solve your rattleing problem!

AEM makes a variety of sizes that will fit other applications. I replaced the oiled filter that came with the AirAid CAI I had on my Nissan with a AEM DryFlow and it worked very well. I just measured the filter that came with the GMPP CAI before I installed it and found one with the same dimensions. I'll be getting an AEM DryFlow to replace the paper one in the GMPP CAI when it's time!
