Coolant Life Question

Baought a 10 year old car back in February of this year. I am not sure how old the coolant is that is in there now. It is nice and green and reads good on the coolant temp range checker. My question is if the coolant is 4 or 5 years old ( ie older than the recommended life of the coolant) will it still read good on the coolant temp range checker? How to tell if it needs to be changed. Thanks in advance!

I would change it but you can check it with a PH tester. Probably will light a lightbulb.

It it were me I would change it just to be on the safe side. In fact, I'm the type that would change all fluids just so I knew they were good. Cheap insurance IMO.

He is talking about the PH levels being out of the roof and possible electrolysis. They make PH strips and you can test the current flow with a volt meter. Lubegard has recently introduced an electrolysis tester that is really easy to read. You simply stick a probe into the coolant and ground the wire coming from the tester. If the light is green, the current level is acceptable, if red the current level is dangerous.
