Dealer Install Time Required?

I know this topic has been beaten to death, but does anyone know how long the install should take a dealer mechanic barring any problems ?

They're trying to charge me for new shaft, however I've got a print out from the GM VIS system stating that under warranty the original shaft was changed with a second old style shaft, so I'm going to try and either get a price break or have it covered.

I cant imagine it would take more than 30 min. Heck im no GM tech and I can do it in my driveway in 15 min

Well they must be trying to hose me then, they called two hours before close yesterday and said my brake work was done but the shaft would have to wait until morning when the mechanic had enough time to do the job...

Well picked it up this morning and they still wanted 275 plus labour of 1 hour. Then I told them I could get the oem shaft from gmpartsdirect for 52 on sale right now and showed him the website and exact same part number. They gave it to me for 92 and a half hour labour. Not too bad but I had to really itch at them. But it's done and feels like driving a car now....

Just a quick input. A flat rate charge doesn't mean that's how long it will take the mechanic to do the job. If you can do it in 15 min., more then likely he/she can also. The flat rate manual is published TO MAKE THE PURCHASER OF THE MANUAL MONEY!! Nothing more, nothing less. I found this out several years ago when I took my truck in for repairs that according to "THE MANUAL", would take 5 hours. 4 hours later while running to the store I went by the dealership and my truck was sitting outside.

Thinking that they hadn't even started on it yet, I stopped and went in to *itch. They told me it was done. I asked for the bill and found that they stilled charged me for 5 hours labor. When I protested that it didn't take that long, I was informed that that's what "THE MANUAL" said and that was that. :D I know you all will say I should have raised all kind of hell about it but I didn't and that's that. :P

LESSON LEARNED!!

If the dealer changed the shaft under the bumper to bumper warranty and now its gone bad the dealer should replace it for free. I have had all my current trucks 2000,01,03 & 04 replaced with the latest & greatest after many other fixes & replacements. Zero $ out of my pocket.
