Need Help And Advice Rear Burb Liftgate Problem

Recommended Posts

We were leaving on vacation last week and I had the rear window up on the lift gate for about an hour while we were getting ready. Now on my 2002 Burb you can leave the rear cargo lift gate down and just open the window, they each have a set of shocks/struts

When I got ready to close the window I noticed the hinge wasn't aligned and it wouldn't close.

I figured out that there was a defect in the hinge where it is molded to the glass. There are stress cracks in the rubberized plastic where the glass attaches to the hinges. On the passenger side, the force of the shock kept pushing upward until it cracked the plastic and caused the hinge to start to break free.

this is so cheaply built I can't believe it. I am hoping that some of you know of some kind of recall maybe or other way to fix it. I would imagine the whole glass assembly comes together with the hinges, because I can't see a way to replace the glass from the frame because there really is no frame.

either way, this bit of bad design is gonna cost me hundreds if I have to buy a whole new back glass out of my pocket
