ok guys; i need your help; bought regular cab 4x4 z-71 5300, 3 73 gears. i am reading that maybe i should have gotten v max 6.0 instead but too late. i am confused about programmers, custom tunes, or self tunes with software. what is best way to go? the truck is a shortbed regular cab; it feels quick to me; cause i just sold my duramax 2500hd in; just didnt need that big truck and payment. so the smaller 5300 feels quicker but i want some tuning performance! please advise; oh im ray and i am new here; lots of great info from a great bunch of gm guys! thanks

Wait4Me performance does a great job with these new trucks. Look them up on google and give Jesse a call, and for 2xx.00 dollars, you can have a tune that removes most of the torque management so you dont have as much hesitation or you can get more MPG or more power. Depends on what you want from him, but he can do pretty much anything that you ask.

Slight correction to above post. Assuming you have a 07 NBS GMT900. They use a brand new E38 ECM, Jesse will most likely discourage you from removing TM (Torque Management), but he will tune it and improve throttle response and shifts. The $157 price does not include the new E38 ECMs. I believe he charges about $250 for these to tune the stock ECM/TCM. If you want a new (core) ECM, then it will be more $$$. What I have seen alot of NBS owners doing is buying the SCT handheld from Jesse and he loads 3 custom tunes onto it for you. That way you can load the tunes into your stock ECM and save the stock tune for dealer visits. Also, keeping the original ECM means you will not need a crank relearn. He charges about $350 or so for this option.

Another option is to go with the Edge Evolution programmer. That is what I have and it is very similar in nature to the SCT option listed above. Go to Edgeproducts.com and read about it. PM me if you have any questions about it and also I can tell you where to get it for $380, shipped.

DiableSport is another good option too.

Of course, the BEST option for max performance is to go to a local speed shop and have it dyno-tuned. But that will cost you at least $500 and it will not leave you the option of returning to stock for dealer service and could cause warranty issues. This would also require some tranny upgrades too.

Again, PM me with any specific questions about the Edge.

No need to shout, jk, but try not to type in al caps. Edge is a great programmer, and it shows many different real time readings that make it worth every penny. My truck is staying as is until I trade it in.

Thanks for the compliment.

There are several Edge related threads here and in the Technical section under Performance Engine Tuning. Just do a search and type in "Edge". Or just browse through the pages and look for the Edge threads. I and a few others have posted ALOT of info and feedback about the Edge Evolution. There are at least 6 threads on this topic.

Unless you know ALOT about tuning, which you obvioulsy aren't, no offence, DO NOT get a self software tune. At least if you get a tune frome a company and they f up your truck, you have some knd of recource, if you do it yourself with HP Tuners or whatever if the truck gets f-ed up it is only 20-40 K down the drain.

Please read my sig. This post is kinda harsh. Welcome to the forum.
