Nbs Plastic Piece On Tailgate And Shell Top

My 07 is having Line-x installed as I type

By the way, for those of you in Va Beach Va... this Line-x of VA Beach over on Columbus street seems Top notch. Incredibly helpful, very service focused, act like they really like trucks and value your business... ok back on point

As I was talking to the Linex guys, they said that if I wanted a shell on top, the cap place would most likely remove the plastic covering and replace that with one that followed the contour of the tail gate. He knew all about the holes under that flat topped piece of plastic.

However, he sais the replacement piece is put on with 2 sided tape. I did not care much for that.

Can you guys confirm? Is that correct that if I put the shell on I will have to replace that piece?

I've been wanting to take that plastic thing off since I bought my truck, I don't know what its for and I don't like it, but of course its bolted in so there will be a bunch of holes. I think its one of the dumber designs on the truck and even dumber is we can't take it off unless you want to have those holes filled and painted.

I replaced mine with the piece from the 1 ton. I put a camper top on shortly after.

Wow, that looks great compared to the 1500 "spoiler". Does it have the same footprint on the inside? Reason I ask is my spray-in liner was already done, so I wonder if it would fit in where the current one is without having to re-shoot the liner.

I don't mind the spoiler look, it's great for standing on when scouting for birds!

Mine's already scratched to death but I'm thinking one day it'll dry rot and crack and I'll need another.

Is the old one up for sale?

Yup I kinda like the deal for standing on getting in/out of the box. Duck hunter I suppose?

But I could see where if you had a top cap you would have to the flat one so the door would close.

The tape deal...I know if you get aftermarket side rail protectors all that holds them on is tape which doesn't seem like much but I guess it works for people.
