ok so im looking to make my first brand new truck purchase next year and i have it narrowed down to what i want, GMC 2500hd crewcab short box 4x4 6.0l in stealth grey. so i went looking around this weekend and found the right truck but the wrong color, i found VERY FEW stealth grey's even in half ton's!!! i love this color so whats the deal??? is GM just not making that many or is that the new hot color????

Also if i have to order my truck, what are the pro's and con's of ordering???? and can you still haggle the price like if you saw one on the lot?? i can get my GM discount which i was told is like 2,500 or so on a 30,000 dollar price tag but i wouldnt get any "year end" incentivies because it would be an 09 (looking to buy mid summer on) what to do, what to do???

Don't know if this helps, but "stealth gray" in an interior color. The exterior gray is called "Graystone Metallic."

I would just order one. When I bought mine, I ordered it because of all the weird stuff I wanted like black paint, a vinyl floor, long bed, roof lights, and captains chairs that weren't leather. They knew they would probably never find one, and I wasn't going to spend that much money unless I got exactly what I wanted. They gave me the same price as if it was sitting on the lot, and 8 weeks later, I got exactly the truck I pictured. You can still order 08's well into 2009, so just find out the cutoff if you can and try to plan accordingly.

Stealth gray is GMC's version of Chevrolet's Blue Granite, it's the blue-grayish color.

This is why I always order so I make sure I get exactly what I want.

According to the GMC brochure i picked up last week, the color is Stealth gray metallic, word for word. I like your tip of finding the cutoff date for an 08 i'll check into that, i think ordering may be the way to go! thanks guys!!

The right way to buy a truck is to order one. There are way more options then a car. (ex: bed size, trim, engine, rear end ratio, etc, etc, etc)

To find what you want on a dealer's lot is like finding a needle in a haystack.

I went to a chevy dealer on Sept 3rd and saw a Blue granite HD that was just what I wanted but it had the $275 power seat that I didn't want. It also had a scratch on the side of the box that needed to be repainted. i didn't want that either. I ordered the same exact truck minus the power seat and minus the scratch I hope and it has been built and should be here in a week or two. I like that color also.

I have that color. Love it. ORDER YOUR TRUCK! If you are buying new, ORDER IT. No need to buy only what the dealer has on their lot. Get exactly what you want. You can still get every single incentive, GM Card discount, ect.. It is cheaper for the dealer to order a pre-sold truck then sell you one off the lot. A dealer doesn't have to finance a sold-unit. No need to add it to the floor policy. They may try and push you into buying one off the lot because they are racking up finance charges every week it sits there, but don't fall for it.

hey thanks for the info!! the more i think about it the more i see ordering is the way to go!!, could you still talk them down on the price a bit, like is there room for some haggeling?? basicly the truck i want runs about 37k sticker price, so with my GM discount, some incentives, and a bit of haggeling, im hopeing to drive it away for 30k, is this realistic??????

Find a dealer with a Fleet Sale department and go talk to one of those guys.

1- they deal 95% in trucks and know them inside and out

2- they order all the time - it is no big deal for them

3- no haggling - they start at invoice, add the ad%, subtract rebates, and trade-in

they can do this because they are incented on the number of vehicles they sell and don't get a % of each car.

^^^^ What he said

I'd offer these additional tips.

1. Find a GM dealer that's not in an "automall" and isn't the big advertiser in your area. Some dealers rely more on retail and some more on fleet. Find one that's oriented towards fleet.

2. Don't let them add in advertising to the invoice. It's scam to inflate the price.

3. Your target should be about $100 over invoice before any incentives. Once you get that price then you can talk about trade ins, financing, etc.

4. Shop around even if it's outside your area. An out of area dealer will be more motivated to close the deal.

Yes, you can get every possible deal with an order. Don't bargain down from MSRP. START at invoice and bargain down to GMS. Don't buy any protection plans or extended warranties....no VIN etching, no seat coatings, no wax, no other overpriced crap. You just want the truck. You don't need to pay a paperwork fee, or advertising fee or gas fee. Nothing more then the truck. You want to pay what an employee would actually pay.

where exactly would you find the invoice?? i work for GM so the salesman told me on a 30k truck it comes out to around $2500 off, but i was told you get a better deal on your discount if you order, either way i think im set on ordering, after reading all the helpful post on here, and talking to co-workers, i just hope i can keep it around 30k for what i want.
