2000 Yukon 5.3 Starting Problem?

I have a 2000 yukon w/ a 5.3 and recently, every time you go to start the car after it sits for a bit, it seems like its flooding. I believe that the fuel pressure regulator is the culprit and floods the engine after sitting for a bit. On a cold start, it fires right up like nothing is wrong but when it has receently been run, you have to crank for about 5 seconds and the rpms fluctuate for a few more seconds and finally idles at 500 rpm. generally i crank and once it starts i gas it at bit a rev to blow out the excess gas. What do you guys think and has anybody had this problem or know how to do it themselves? Also, is it bad to rev the engine right on start up if its still warm?

If it were the fuel pressure regulator, wouldn't you have the opposite problem? Seems that it would start easily when warm. After sitting for a long period of time, the pressure would decrease and you would need to crank for several seconds when starting until the pressure builds back up.

Just thinking out loud. :ughdance:

i have no clue thats why im asking?? The common problems with these trucks include the fuel pump going bad and fuel pressure regulator. Like i said, it only cranks for a while when its warm. Also, the truck doesnt miss a beat once started. Runs very strong and could not tell a difference since new.

you quote:

Is there throttle cables going to your throttle body or a connector. If you can't help us we can't help you bud.

Wife has the exact same truck and had the same problem last year.

Was the regulator.

Her truck also smelled like gas (bad) when it was cranking.

the wife has the truck for the day today so i wouldnt be able to look at it until tonight. as for you steiny, the truck stinks like raw gas when you start it, thats for sure. Also, before i started it i pushed the pedal all the way down to tell the computer to start in a flood situation(because thats what a bad regulator does) and in doing that, it starts quicker and you dont have to crank for so long which leads me to believe that the engine is getting too much gas when in a non-flood starting situation. Are my assumptions correct?
