Does This Price Sound Right?

I called a very reputable offroad shop in Houston (www.alloutoffroad.com) for a quote on some work on my truck. This is what I wanted.

Pro Comp 6" Lift (Coilover Performance kit)

4- 35x12.5-17 Pro Comp Xterrains

4- 17x9 Moto Metal 951

4.56 Gears w/ Detroit Tru Trac

Installed

The total price out the door was $7800

Does that sound right? That seems awfully high to me.

I paid about $5000 for my 6" lift and 4 new wheels/tires. Basically all of that without the gears. I'd say the price is about right. Certainly not awfully high as far as im concerned.

Well I called 4 Wheel Parts in Houston and for the same setup (Auburn locker instead of Detroit) installed is going to be $7200 and w/ the $500 Military Discount it was $6700. Thats $1100 cheaper then the other place. Now thats what Im talking about! I CANT WAIT! After that Ill be getting rid of the Edge tune and getting a custom tune. Ill still use the monitor though.

I go back to Iraq in a few weeks, and my wife will be getting it done while Im gone. When I get home I wont want to waste my time on my truck, and I dont have faith in doing this to my truck. An older straight axle? yes I would, not this IFS crap. LOL. And the gears? I prefer to blame someone else . LOL

Jameson,

No offense, but why spend all of this money on a truck you are never going to be completely satisfied with anyway. You said you wanted a Vmax, I would get one of those first and then spend money getting it the way you want it. Just drive this one until you can get what you really want. A lifted 1/2 ton with the smallest V8 (tuned or not) will not be very popular on the used truck market and you can kiss your factory warranty goodbye (most of it anyway).

Again, this is JMO, it's your truck, do what you want. I would at least wait until you get back and see where your at financially. Maybe you'll be able to save up enough to get the Vmax?

Have you called the place that does lifts in Many, LA - it's just down the road from Leesville. Don't know their prices but I know if nothing else their labor/overhead has to be cheaper than Houston.

I just dont see being able to get the Vmax right away. Im paying the truck off while im gone, and then Im getting the wife her Tahoe when I get back. I sure as hell dont want 2 payments. Anyways, Ill most likely have this truck for about 4-5 years or so. I wont be buying my next truck till I Re-Enlist again. I might as well have fun with this thing while I can. One day Ill have my Vmax or Dmax! But not in the near future.

Screw the Tahoe, buy her an old beater and tell her to like it. Then get yourself a Sierra Denali with the 6.2 6 spd.:crackup::crackup:

I don't want to discourage at all, just want to forewarn. I had a avalanche with the 5.3, 3.73, and i put a 4" rancho lift with 35"s at first and it was pretty bad on the interstate. The truck would never maintain OD with the cruise on even on level ground. Even when feathering the throttle the speedo dropped pretty badly on just about every hill in south MS trying to maintain speed on the interstate.

Technically you could just run 3rd on the interstate which probably wouldn't hurt anything. However if you did run 3rd you probably wouldn't want the screaming of the 4.56, a 4.10 would probably be better. Also if you tow anything it will suck bad. I ocassionally towed my ski boat 3klb or something like that and it was brutal. Couldn't go over 65. If you don't tow and mpg isn't a big deal then go for it. I rode in new sierra with the fabtech kit and it rode better than my stock sierra. "it was a dog though with the 5.3 and 3.73"
