Ball Mounts

I'd like to post a question for the heavy duty crowd. I'm looking for a 2-5/16" chrome ball on a black powdercoated steel hitch bar that will fit my standard class III 2" receiver. I don't want a tri-ball or double-ball mount, just a single. Also, I prefer a straight bar (no adjustable or drop/rise).

I'm planning on towing a tandem-axle dump trailer, and I want to buy an inexpensive, but quality ball mount that won't drop the trailer tongue too low once it's loaded.

Can anyone help me find this?

One more thing -- I don't need a weight-distributing hitch.

Thanks.

www.e-trailer.com has a lot of stuff, but with a 2 5/16" equipped trailer I'd definitely look into a slight rise unless the trailer's empty all the time. Northern Tool/Tractor Supply also has a lot of trailer stuff.

I'd say Northern Tool also - especially if ya have a retail store close. Freight on the drawbar will be as much as the drawbar. And as Ranger says - that weight is prolly gonna make you squat a bit. A 2" drop receiver flipped over is a 0" rise...

But you mention fitting your class III receiver - that tandem dump is gonna be heavier than that more than likely - you will need class IV/V, and those drawbars are a different story. I had to grab a 5" drop 2 5/16"and the only place I could find that stocked it was Napa, and they were $. Check 2 other things if you are needing something bigger than class III - that the hitch on your truck is rated IV/V, and match the shank size of the drawbar and the ball - don't try and use an insert with a trailer that heavy.

We don't have any Northern Tool retails around here, but I'm planning on stopping by at Tractor Supply this weekend.

As far as the class rating for the hitch is concerned, I'm not sure if it's a III or IV. It's a factory hitch included with the towing package that lists a max. tongue wt. of 600 lbs.

The trailer is pretty well balanced on its own, so I know enough to be careful of excess tongue weight when I load it.

I appreciate the info. Thanks.
