I was glancing thru 'the truth about cars' website and found the following. What does this mean as far as GMC and Chevrolet trucks?

November 2, 2007

The percentage represents the discount, while the number in parentheses shows the supply on hand as of the first of October. The inventory numbers may include some 2008 models while the discounts only apply to '07s.

Mitsubishi Raider - 29% (19 day supply)

Jeep Commander - 29% (84 day supply)

Dodge Ram 1500 - 28% (92 day supply)

Chevy Silverado Classic 1500 - 27% (102 day supply*)

GMC Sierra Classic 1500 - 26% (103 day supply*)

Isuzu Ascender - 26% (196 day supply)

Jeep Grand Cherokee - 25% (70 day supply)

Lincoln Town Car - 25% (78 day supply)

Dodge Durango - 25% (74 day supply)

Dodge Dakota - 24% (76 day supply)

Chrysler Aspen - 24% (32 day supply)

Mercury Grand Marquis - 23% (67 day supply)

Chevy Silverado Classic 2500HD - 22% (102 day supply*)

Chrysler Pacifica - 22% (63 day supply)

Saab 9-7x - 22% (113 day supply)

Dodge Grand Caravan - 22% (50 day supply)

Buick Rendezvous - 22% (12 day supply)

Isuzu i-Series - 22% (172 day supply)

GMC Sierra Classic 1500HD - 21% (103 day supply*)

Chevy Trailblazer - 21% (50 day supply)

(*The inventory for Silverado and Sierra are for all versions, not just the Classics. GM doesn't break the inventory numbers down by version or weight class.)

Basically how long the trucks are at the dealership lots waiting to be sold.

Statistics can be misleading... but maybe not in this case!

I'm not coming to GM's defense here but there are a lot of factors to include if we are going to compare apples to apples. Ordinarily there should be a greater supply of domestic trucks when compared to single model vehicles because they come in so many configurations. Lumping them together is probably misleading because it includes several models. Still the supply is too high.

What I see that really isn't good is most of the non truck single vehicle models shown (of all kinds) are in excessive supply for the current demand. Doesn't say much for the domestic car biz does it?

Very true, the 2 day strike that happened when the UAW workers walked actually helped GM with the inventory (Excess inventory, no production, and continued sales, helped trim those inventory numbers, but those numbers are lumped together.

thetruthaboutcars.com?

After looking over that site and their "reviews" (which seem to be written by English and Political Science majors with little automobile knowledge), It seems much less like news and more like a political statement.

The "Truth" about cars seems more like Opinionated Canadian - American Cars are Evil Digest. Somewhat typical of vehicular media - be they web or print. If Honda or Toyota makes it, then it is simply a better product...

BLAH BLAH BLAH...

I'll take my reviews from somebody that at least has a decent automobile background. So called consumer reports types just don't seem to connect with the real world. If we all gave a s**t what our College professors thought, we'd all be driving 91 Accords or old Volvo wagons.

Consumer Reports SHOULD hand the cars/trucks over to the testers completely debadged inside and out, and with the camo that the manufacturers put on the mules.

91 Accords and Volvo wagons . .

I had one that took public transportation.

Yeah, I had some that were pretty darn good instructors too... they just don't live in the same world we do.
