2009 Chevy Silverado At The 2008 Auto Show?

I just got off the phone with a rep from Chevy after I wrote to them asking why there is no 6.5' bed or 6 speed tranny on the 1500 Silverado Crewcab.

After a long talk I asked her what Chevy is going to unveil at the show in January? She said she did not know.

Ford is going to show off it's newly designed 09 F 150 with new engine, interior and 6 speed tranny.

She agreed it would be bad that Chevy had nothing to show and had no idea what they have planned. She also said the number one complaint about the 07 silverado 1500 is no 6.5' bed followed by no 6 speed tranny.

She said the complaints and suggestions is how they decide on what to fix or add to the new vehicles so hopefully enough people have complained about the short beds on the CC's and a change is in store for the mid year 08's.

I really like the CrewCab allot but the smaller bed killed any thought of me purchasing the truck.

Does anyone know what Chevy has planned for the Auto Show? Do they show up at all and if they do, with what?

for 09 you will get hybrids. I heard the 6.2 will replace the 6.0 in the 1500's (6.2 comes with 6sp only)

not sure on the longbed

The Hybrid comes out in '09, making Silverado the best fuel economy pickup, 6.2 will be replacing 6.0, 6spd trannys mid 2009 - 2010, and there will be a diesel in 2010 in 1500 platform. As for bed size I haven't heard anything.

This is what I'm waiting for....That will probably be my next truck!

Any possibility of swapping in the 6-speed in place of the current 4-speed on a 2007?

I can tell you that we will NOT see a 1500 crew cab with a 6.5 foot bed. I have been through this numerous times already with GM. Stupid move on their part.

I wish I was wrong, but no luck until the next redesign (scheduled for 2011/2012).

I don't too much care if I have the 4 speed or the 6 speed at this point, but, the six speed will net you better mileage in theory. I don't really want a six speed right now because of the fact that so many people are complaining about the sloppy shifting they are having. I wouldn't want one until at least 2-3 years down the road. This is just my opinion. I'm not trying to knock anyone's decision to buy a Denali. I'm just saying I wouldn't do it and why.

whats the bid deal about 6 speed trannys?

I think it just makes people feel like they are in a big rig or something, I'm happy with my 4 speed and would be just as happy with a good TH350 or TH400 3 speed. Before you know it they will have 18 speed manual transmissions and you'll be shifting every 6 mph. That would make Eaton happy anyways. :D

Why did they ditch the manual trannies? I won't be impressed until they produce a MANUAL 6 speed behind every engine. Less confusion cheaper production.

Well, I just know my next truck will definately have a 6-sp auto. Whether it be a Denali, or later down the road when they put it on the rest of the truck line-up. I mean, it's already an option on the Tahoe.

More gears, when done correctly, normally means better performance and mileage. It's going to be the future (and present) of all vehicles. If GM could build them fast enough, I'm sure the 6sp auto would be standard equipment on everything they could put one in.

Just give 'em time...
