"rain-sense" Windshield Wipers

I checked the owners manual and there's no mention of what this is. There's no additional settings or symbols on the controls.

When I ordered this Sierra Denali, the sales guy gave me a printout right from of the GM Autobook program that they build your vehicle on.

"Intermittent windshield wiper system w/demand-type washer, Rain Sense, heated washing fluid"

I wonder if it's a phantom option like the polished exhaust tip.

I believe this means your wipers will activate automatically when it's raining.

Raymond,

On my 2006 Cadillac DTS with RainSense Wipers...(it should be the same on your truck)

If they are on when it starts raining, thay automagically come on AND turn on your headlights. As the rain intensity increases... the speed of the wipers increases. When the rian slows down... the wipers slow down. When the rain stops.. the wipers stop and turns your headlights off for you.

The sensitivity of the rain sense is controlled by the wiper stalk. It looks the same as the old style stalk for the old style intermittent wipers. But it has some major differences. Instead of the marks controlling the speed of the intermittent wipers... it controls the sensitivity of the Rain Sense

To test it....... With engine running....leave it "ON" at either the first mark or second mark on the stalk. It shouldn't do anything, (assuming your windshield is dry). Splash some water on the windshield. The wipers will clean the windshield and then STOP, all by themselves. When it "IS" raining and you want them to go faster or slower... just turn the stalk that USED TO BE for the intermittent wipers and it increases or decreases the sensitivity of the Rain Sense and thus the speed of the wipers.

CORRECT.... but only if then are turned "ON", and are in standby, from the wiper stalk.

Or at least thats how mine work.

That is correct. Your previous post about how they work (and how to test them) is accurate for how Rain Sense works on the trucks, too. I always have to remind myself to turn them off when I go to the local car wash. Otherwise, the wipers come on, when they pre-spray the front-end and windshield to remove all the bugs...

When my wipers are ON and I start the truck and there's rain on the windshield, the d**n wipers won't turn on so I have to do it manually all the time.

So you don't have the rainsense feature :lol:

Take it back to the dealer and make them fix it. No point in having it if it don't work right. They are a nice option, in my opinion.

I have the rain sensing feature, just that when I start the truck and there's already rain on the winshield the rain sensing wipers don't work until I change the settings

Haven't noticed that on mine. I will pay more attention. I may be turning it to another setting to get it going and not even realizing it.

I think I've experienced this before, too. If the truck is running before it starts raining, Rain Sense kicks in. If it's already raining when you start the truck, I believe it does not activate.. At least until the pattern of rain over the sensor changes. I could be wrong about that last part, htough...

If it's raining before I start the truck, I believe I have typically been reaching over and adjusting it, out of habit from not having that feature on previous vehicles.

I love the feature, had it in a caddy and am glad they are on the trucks now. I have always been anal about wipers.

Mine too, does not work on start-up if the sensor is on and the glass is wet, however, its getting cold out, and pre-started the truck the past week and when i come back out the wipers have gone on, maybe the sensor has to 'heat' up, so to say?

It hasn't gotten cold yet, since I got the truck. But, I've been told that the Rain Sense can also detect frost. So, it's probably heating up the washer fluid and then running the wipers to clear the windshield.
