2500HD 8.1 Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Anybody running the Hypertech Max Energy or the Superchips Flashpaq on their truck or SUV. I'm looking to get one for my 05 Denali. I'm sure there is not much difference between the two. I think Hypertech is generally more conservative, but I've never had a problem with the Hypertech programmers in the past. On my 01 Suburban 8.1L, I had a Superchips programmer that kept blowing out the 4X4 switch. I went to the Hypertech, and it was fine. Just looking for some input from you guys running one of these programmers. Thanks.
Gripenfelter Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I would recommend http://www.pcmforless.com/index.php?option...2&Itemid=40 over those two. Bryan has done a few cars for us in the past and he is very good. He will be doing my truck after I do headers. He's on his honeymoon right now and will be back on the 26th. But he's worth the wait.
omegafiler Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 The MaxEnergy has the exact same tune as the older Power Programmer III it replaced. It's just "internet updateable" and has a new smaller form factor. I've used both the Hypertech and Flashpaq on my YD and obviously ditched 'em both for a custom tune on an SCT handheld - which was way better. But if you have to pick one, I'd go with the Flashpaq. It had more power, more options, easier to use, and had much better support (including a forum). I did have a shift delay issue with my Flashpaq, which is why I got the Hypertech in the first place. It had noticably less power, but had no shift lag problems. That was a while ago and I would hope they fixed it by now (but probably not). Either way, you can easily return them if they don't work correctly (after updating them of course). But once again, as everybody will keep telling you... it's all about the Custom Tune man.
2500HD 8.1 Posted November 21, 2007 Author Posted November 21, 2007 Where did you get your custom tune SCT programmer from???
omegafiler Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Wait4Me. They'll put up to 3 custom tunes on the SCT Handheld tuner. It was only about $370 or so, shipped. Now I can easily switch between Economy tune, Performance, or Max Tune... in about 30 seconds. Or, go back to stock if it's time for a trip to the dealer. At the time I was doing my research, all the other guys wanted to swap out the PCM. http://www.wait4meperformance.com/ http://www.sctflash.com/ (I think it's down right now)
Jameson Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 www.blackbearperformance.com is the best IMO
2500HD 8.1 Posted November 21, 2007 Author Posted November 21, 2007 Thanks for the input guys. I'll check them out. Omegafiler, have you had any problems with the SCT Wait4Me tune? No bad codes or issues with the vehicle running funny? Anything? I guess I'm a little hesitant to go with something other than the major name brands, but again I did have problems with Superchips and Predator.
