reason why I asked is because there are locks for the tailgate, but I have looked for the handle as well and the only thing that comes up is a chrome one, not black oem. Why are you looking for the handle?

GM offers an accessory tailgate lock package,Its part number 17802393 and includes the handle, bezel, and cylinder.

It uses the factory key that you already have,It "codes" to your key whenever you go to use it for the first time.

It only runs $49 bucks.

OEM on Ebay with lock and bezel is about 46 bucks. Not bad!

I installed the GM tailgate lock kit and its great. Didnt come with instuctions but it was easy enough to install. Not having another key is nice and I ordered it online for less than MSRP. Only dislike is that it was made in Mexico.

I just purchased a tailgate lock and was wondering if there was any tips/tricks you found and any problem getting the lock coded to your key. mine doesnt have any information about this part of the installation.

I may be wrong, but I don't think it is more difficult than inserting the key and giving it a turn. First insertion in a new lock is for key learning.

Thats what I thought, but I could have sworn I read on a thread that if you dont do it correctly you could screw up the lock.

Hope you haven't tried my suggestion yet. :sigh:

IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP Went to GM Parts Direct site and :

*Installation of your new End Gate Lock Package requires coding your vehicles factory key to the lock, by your local GM dealer or locksmith. (Price of coding not included. May be additional cost will be required for coding at your local dealer or locksmith.)

Hope you haven't tried my suggestion yet.
