Defrosting Windows

Another problem I have noticed, the god d**n windows dont defrost at all. All the windows except the windshield don't defrost fast at all. It will take a good 20 minutes before I can see clearly through the back windows, even than there is a good amount of steam on the windows. Why did I purchase this truck. Truly a piece of s**t.

 

Plastic is starting to come off even more now.

My windows defrost just fine. As for the body, welcome to new trucks 101. None of the automakers make the bodies as strong as they used to.

This your first crew cab pickup?

 

I've owned several F150s through F350s and none had a heater that would do much for the back windows. And, until just recently, Ford didn't offer a rear window defroster for the non-sliding rear window. So I'm pretty happy with the way my GMC clears the windows... being an extended cab with no rear slider really helps though.

My windshield and side windows defrost very quickly... sounds like you got a lemon.

Take it in and tell them. That's not normal. Unless you're leaving it on vent instead of using the defroster setting.

 

I've never had a problem with fogged windows in any vehicle I've ever had except my '72 El Camino...Unless you count the "parking incidents"...But I'm not counting them.

 

In the meantime, I'd suggest getting some RainX anti-fog. That worked for me.

Usually looks something like this.

 

Although, there may be a couple of them...One for a rear-window defroster and heated mirrors (if you have them). That will be a button by itself. The defroster setting is usually the same symbol, except it's integrated within the HVAC controls.

My 2008 GMT900 defrosts pretty good up here in mountain/valley country.

 

I go out and start vehicle first and let run for a few minutes. This may not be practicle in apartments and condos. I have been doing this for longer than some on this board have been outside their mother's womb. Over the years and various other vehicles.

 

My GMT900 heats up somewhat faster than many vehicles I have owned. And defrosts better than many.

 

Home Depot. I purchased this spay they had on sale few years ago. Looked like orange/green tinted Windex. But just spray it on frost windshield and it would melt frost and off you go. I haven't seen this product ever again. Worked great. For many years (not recommended) it was hot/warm water from tap in bucket and splash on windows when I was in a hurry for work. I would say remote start is a good invention and solution to this situation.

Scrape the windows, start and idle for 10, and take off. During that 10 I have to go feed the horses before I leave in the morning, so no time wasted for me. Turn the fan full, heat high, all the way to defrost, and I am ready to go by the time I get back in the truck. I've never had a vehicle that defrosted the back without scraping them minus the back windows with electric defrosters. If you need more heat, when you get out on the road just hot rod it until it warms up ;-) Just don't complain if something else goes wrong.
