My truck squealls really bad. I am going to change the belt this weekend. I have already repacked the bearings in the idler pulley but it is still going crazy. It is really bad now that the weather is below freezing and when there is any kind of moisture in the air. D**n is it annoying. Thanks for your help.

I replaced six belts over 75K miles including a couple of tensioners before a mechanic said one of the sheaves is slightly out of alignment. He moved it only about 1/16 or less and now has gone 25K without a problem so he has to be right. Several dealerships had checked the alignment previously and said it was aligned ok.

If the belt hasn't been replaced in a while, they do get glazed over and start making noise... especially on cold mornings. A lot of times all it takes is a new belt.

Just think about how many times that belt goes around those pulleys every time you drive to work... much less over 30,000 miles. It's amazing that anything can take that abuse.
