Abs Freaking Me Out!

Recommended Posts

What's up with the ABS kicking on for no apparent reason. I have a 2000 Z71 and occasionally when I am rolling along slowly and applying light pressure to the brakes the ABS will come on and I almost can't stop. Do the ABS sensors need to be cleaned? If so how do I do it? The truck did have the recall done a few years back. Thanks.

Better hope it's not your abs control module. Mine went out on my 99 rcsb..$1000 to fix!

GM's are known to have sensor problems. Mainly rust between the sensor and

the mounting surface, which is the ground connection.

There were some TSBs on this and don't know if your year covered.

Remove the sensor and clean the rust away, remount with a good

coating of grease (I like anti-seize).

Also could be a build up of metal filings on the magnet. Clean that

first before taking the sensor off.

This is a picture of one that had a similar problem and fixed after

I cleaned the filings off.

Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try.

the very same thing happened to me in my old 2001 Silverado. i orignally had the recall doen a few years ago but it wasnt a true fix. i cant remember all the details but when i traded int he truck this past year, the dealer told me that the recall at the time wasnt a true fix, that they only replaced the sensors but not amened this issue. if you take it to your dealer again they should update the computer, replace the bad senors with better ones.

of course i never saw anyone of this...this what they told me they were going to do to it. im sure someone can supply more information on it.

There was a recall on this??? I'm wondering how come I never got a notice. I have had my ABS activate a couple of times but it's not been a problem. I just considered it an anomoly.
