03 S-10 Will Not Switch Into 4wd

My father-in-law, cannot get his S-10 to switch into four-wheel drive. We checked the fuses, with no luck... Anyone have ideas. I don't want to take it to the dealer, unless absolutly nessary. Thanks, for your input.

If it is push button, check the transfer case motor. I'm not sure where they are on the little transfer cases but there is only a few bolts/screws holding it on. You can pick them up usually for under $100.

Whoa, its been a while since i bought one, one for your truck from advance auto is at least $200 here is a link so you can get an idea of what it looks like, i'd check that puppy out and make sure before i'd buy one. In my ranger i replaced it twice and i changed one in a 97 k1500 for a friend. good luck, hopefully you don't need to buy a new one.

Ok, how about this....

It is push button. Disconnected the battery, after 15 min, reconnected it. Now everything works fine. Do the computers F up every now and then?

Who knows but thats much better than having to replace parts and trying to find the problem! If only all problems were that easy.
