OK SO ME AND MY BOSS WERE WONDERING CAUSE HE HAS A NEW TAHOE, DOES THE TPMS READ LOW PRESSURE AND HIGH PRESSURE. If you have a 'Dic' on your control panel, you can push one of those buttons and it'll tell you how much preassure in in each tire.

 

Mine does, but I got a Doo Dah!

I GET THAT IT TELLS HOW MUCH IS IN EACH TIRE, BUT HE'S TELLING ME IT TRIPS THE SENSOR IF THERE IS TO MUCH AIR IN THEM, I'VE NEVER HEARD OF THIS TILL NOW, IM TRYING TO VERIFY THIS...

The sensor is only accurate till about 45lbs or something. I don't think it trips a sensor when there's too much air in the tires because a guy on here runs about 45lbs of air in his tires (low profile tires on 22" rims) and the only warning he gets is from the Onstar E-mail saying you've got too much air in your tires.

Thats exactly the way it works in my 2006 Cadillac. Couldn't swear about the Tahoe. I will ask my son. He has a new Denali.

 

At 39 pounds mine tells you to check tire pressure. It even tells you WHICH tire to check.

 

At 24 pounds mine tells you the tire is low. Again, it also tells you WHICH tire is low.

I don't know about the high pressure indication but on a cold morning mine will come on and say something like "CHECK TIRE PRESSURE" if a tire hits 28psi. DIC will show which one is lower than the others. Once they warm up to 32psi it will cycle off and stay off until it cools off and the pressure drops again.

From here and a bunch of other sites it appears that GM has a lot to work on the TPMS to make it actually useful...of course if people can't use a tire pressure gauge there's probably not much you can do for them.

The warning light DOES come on when the pressures are to hi and low.

You can have the montor/pressures adjusted with a TECH2 to what ever you need.

When we first picked up our 2007 Suburban from the dealer, there was a flashing error message for the TPMS on the DIC.

 

Can't remember what it said exactly, but it was something like "Check TPMS System" or " TPMS System Error". The dealer said it was because they had just adjusted the air pressure in the tires, and the message would go away after driving for a couple of miles.

 

Of course, the message didn't go away, and since the dealer was obviously clueless about the system, I decided to have a look myself. Got out my old pressure gauge and discovered that the tires were ridiculously overinflated - something like 60 psi, IIRC.

 

Anyway, I let out enough air to get the tires down to 35 psi, and what do you know, the error message on the DIC went away.

OFF is not an option. It isn't legal and I doubt many of the "tuners" are going to be willing to take that liability risk. Yes, I know it is BS.

I couldn't care less about the idiot light, but when the d**n thing comes on you can't see the odometer on the readout deal - if your marking mileage (which I do a LOT for work) you can't read it.

I don't know what the cut off is but I keep my tires at 40psi cold. When they are warmed up they usually read about 42. I haven't hit the magic number yet. BTW, with the 245 stock Ameritracs, it has a lot smoother ride and I've seen a bit of milage improvement. I've yet to notice any negative tire wear as well.
