2008 GMC 4x4 Regular Cab Long Bed WT

 

OK, so my truck has the regular windshield mirror.

 

Today, at dealership, while work was being done on my new truck, I test drove a new one on lot.

 

I noticed - and I had never seen this before - the rear view mirror has temperature and direction in a little screen on the right side of mirror. On the new truck I drove at dealer.

 

Not offered, I think, on my model 2008 truck.

 

Does anyone know if I can just purchase a new factory mirror with the temp/direction screen and replace my existing rear view mirror?

 

Or is this one of those things that a special wire is needed, different module, and rip apart the whole dash to accomplish this? If that is so, I'll skip this neat feature.

 

In other words is it an easy swap or a difficult and/or impossible swap. Factory mirror to factory mirror.

These mirrors are standard on the LT1 and higher trim trucks. In addition, they are also auto dimming, which is the nicest feature. To install one of these, you would need to add a sensor for measuring the outside temperature. The mirror also has a built-in compass, but no extra sensors for that are needed. However, I am not sure if your truck harness has a pigtail for the mirror, as it obviously requires power.

Maybe one of GM parts people can help here.

Dunno, I went the opposite direction. I have the compass/temp with auto dimming mirror and I ordered the one off the W/T model and it fit. Of course that doesn't help you out.

 

The plug was the same, so I think the question is - is there a temp sensor already in the vehicle and/or the wiring for it if you have to add it.

It can be done, I had it done on my 02 WT. That same vebdor that GM gets that mirror from, sells them to the public via truck accy shops and such, they can actually be added to any brand or model of truck. It wires into any fuse box.

don t know how involved it is but I ve seen people have that added on. I would guess the mirror itself would be $150..
