I have a new 08 Sierra with the 6.0. After several weeks of driving, the engine started ticking. The ticking noise was coming from the left side of the enginge, and could be heard even better near the left front wheel well. About the same time I noticed the engine ticking, my engine light came on. I contactacted Onstar and they diagnosed the problem as bank one and bank two heated oxygen sensers. By the time I took the truck in for repair, the engine light was out. Service Dept. said that they couldn't use OnStar's diagnoses and that there were no codes stored on the truck's computer. Turned out to be a gasket leak on the exhaust system. I was told the gasket was located between the "Y" flange and the catalytic converter. Not sure if the leak had anything to do with the engine light, but it hasn't been back in since they repaired the leak.

That is a very misleading web site that is sponsered by lawyers. The piston slap issue in the 3100 series motors is very different. The cylinder walls in these motors would score to the point were you could feel the scoring. The piston slap on the LSX engines, per a GM engineer that I spoke with and also from personal experiance seeing many engines torn down, is the fact that the skirt has been almost completly eliminated from the piston. This was done to save rotating mass weight and increase efficiency as well as performance. I do mechanical inspections for a living and I can honestly say that the LSX series of engines is one of the most reliable that I have seen. The noise in these engines is made worse by carbon build up on the piston tops, which effectively raises the compression ratio of the engine and causes the piston to rock more. I have been sucessful in quieting many of these engines down, simply by completing a decarb on the engine. I have seen very few failures in this line of engines compared to others. I have seen high milage examples torn down and have never seen scoring in the cylinder walls to the point where it can be felt like in the 3100 engines.

Yea, Just have your exhaust looked over and if there are no leaks then you most likely know your problem.....Like every vehicle Ive owned and heard have it, but ofcourse some some are worse then others like my 6.0 had it bad, but my 8.1 doesnt.
