2008 Malibu

One of our customers owns a large GM Dealership and his family owns 3 or 4 other Delerships in all. Including Ford and Nissan. I spent a good deal of time with him yesterday and we had a chance to "talk GM". He typically drives a GMC CC but was in a 2008 Malibu yesterday. It was a base LS with a 4cyl and cloth interior. I had a chance to take a good look at it and we went to lunch in it as well. I was very impressed. Although it is a little smaller than what I like to ride in, it was extremely comfortable, quiet and smooth. Of course it was not designed to compete in the full size arena and is a direct competitor for the Accord, Camry and Altima.

Of course everyone on this forum knows I am a little biased towards GM vehicles :smash: but with all that aside, I have to say that GM has hit their mark right in the bullseye. If they can go for 18 months or so with no major issues with this car, it will be a huge hit.

My customer said that GM is fully aware that they have done an excellent job in the truck market for years and until now have focused their car efforts on the rental fleets. They are now shifting gears and have realized the rental industry is a very low profit market for them. He said they have realized in order to move themselves back into a positive perspective with Wall Street, they needed to win over the hearts of the American Public once again. The Malibu is the beginning of this effort.

If you have not taken a close look at one, I think you will be impressed. I certainly was.

BTW, If you do look at one. Look closely at the detail in the rear side marker lights, the back up lights and some of the lights in the front. They all boast a very small "Bowtie" either in the lens itself or in the deflector mounted in front of the bulb. I thought it was a pretty cool idea.

My bet is you will see the next gen Impala with some pretty big improvements. The current model is a nice car and from what I can tell about those in our fleet, they have been trouble free cars with the exception of the I shaft clunk.

My aunt and uncle, just got one of the new Malibu's. Its one nice car.

I like it. I also like what GM is doing in their other divisions. Look at the Buick Lucerne. I hope the trend continues.

I would actually be tempted to buy one... But I'm still gonna have to see some proof of quality improvements and resale value before I write a check for a new American made car. We make the best trucks but I think we need some work in the car dept. Congrats to GM for moving very forward with this!

I want to see us kick some serious car butt like we already do with our trucks. :smash:

.. and then a station wagon i would be happy ...

:smash: I like me some wagons. :D

if their new direction does hold up ... and it does happen to include a full sized (rwd) station wagon .. i know for sure what my next purchase after the truck is paid off will be...

Saw these elsewhere.

Lumina SS and G8 wagon photoshop I guess.

i could live with that....

or if one of the conversion companies uses the new impala to make a hearse .. i could always get one of those ... course the wife would kill me .. but hey i would have my ride already picked out!

My guess is the white car is a Lumina SS, a reskinned G8. A RWD High Perf V8, 6spd, posi trac sedan by Chevrolet. Now ya talkin !!! It would be really cool to kick a $70,000 BMW's butt in a $30,000 Chevrolet with SS badges on it.

All they need to do now is bring back some type of 2 door mid size with the same platform. Something along the lines of a Chevelle SS with a hint of 1970/71 retro (Cowl Induction, 2 wide stripes etc). That would be a perfect prescription for the mid life crisis that I feel coming on.
