2003 Yukon Denali Awd System

Hey all, just bought a 2003 Yukon Denali XL... On the way home I got stuck in the snow banks, and on my Yukon Denali (not sure if it's the same with other Denali), it does NOT have the "Auto AWD" "4 high" "4low" buttons on the left side of the steering colum... but instead it has a little car skidding logo to the right of the stereo.

 

Anyways, trying to get out of the snow, I can hear something "clicking" (noise) in the dash, is that the AWD system kicking in?

If I'm not mistaken (and I may very well be) the AWD system in the Denali's are full-time, meaning that they are always on.

That's what some of my automotive friends are saying (licensed techs, but not GM techs). And that little "car skidding" logo takes it off AWD. However, the question is that when I was stuck in the snow (rear tires spinning), I could hear something clicking in the dash or front area; something electrical that wants to engage.

My 03 Denali also makes clicking noise from the dash area when spinning the wheels. It's just the traction control doing it's thing.

 

Also, that little "car skidding" logo does not turn off (or on) the AWD, it turns off the Stability Control feature.

Denali's are full-time AWD.

I just bought a 2003 Denali. It makes the clicking noise when the wheels are not spinning. It started when we test drove it. Then after awhile, it stopped. After not driving it awhile, it started again but then stops after awhile.

 

The manual says, "When you start your engine and begin to drive away, your anti-lock brake system will check itself. You may hear a momentary motor or clicking noise whil this test is going on. This is normal."

 

The clicking I have is not momentary but it does eventualy stop. Do you think that this is what the clicking noise from the dash is?

I have still been having the periodic clicking noise and now my Service Airbag message just came on. Wondering if these are related?
