Just Did The 4 Highbeam Mod...

I just installed the Highbeam Headlight Relay kit from Painless Performance. It keeps the low beams on while you are using the high beams. Makes a HUGE difference at night, one of my friends mentioned that it looks like HIDs. If you haven't already done this mod, do it, it's a very cheap and easy mod. The only thing I don't like about it is that you have to tap into factory wiring.

I put loom over the wires after I took these pics. I'm going to try and take some before and after pics later tonight.

I think I remember seeing a terminal for the headlights near the fusebox, they could have just made something that plugged in between the two connectors. I really hate tearing into the factory wiring, but it was worth it in this case.

Here are some pics, my camera really sucks ass, but this should give you an idea:

Low Beams Only vs. High Beams Only vs. High & Low Beams

How else would you expect to do this mod?

Normally you just jump the 2 terminals in the fuse box with a resistor and a short piece of wire and never touch any wiring. Since I have a '99, I had to ground the low beams for it to work.

Yea, but this way you're not pulling any extra current through a single wire.

Awesome post, thanks for sharing the results/pictures.

I always considered the idea myself too. Although, tapping into the factory harness is quite a deterrent.

How do you do the diode trick on a 1996 Tahoe. I did this to my 2005 Dually some time back and never had a problem.

I don't believe it adds any extra current to the wires because the low beams have there own circuit back to the relay that operates them and the same with the high beams. Someone may have a schematic handy and maybe they can clarify this.

Wait. . . wait. So which is the best way to do this? It would be awesome to have this on my truck. I have a 2001 GMC.

I did it on my 01. Just pull the underhood relay box apart. The cover unclips and it rolls sideways, do a search and find more acurate directions. Anyway, in one of the little bunches of wires there are these two yellow wires, get a wire splice, the kind you slide on then squeez down so that it gives you another lead then ground it somewhere on the firewall. It sounds complicated but honsetly I'd never even changed a fuse in the realy box and I tackled it in about 10 min outside at about -15 degrees with a windchill. Make sure you have a good light source.
