Water Leak In Passenger's Floor Board

Since all else has failed.......

 

Try to find some fluorescent dye.

Mix it in water and pour it over the suspected leak area.

Then use a BLACK LIGHT to locate the source of the leak.

My passenger side leak was fixed by replacing the "outside" weather stripping on the door. I wasn't actually trying to fix the leak by replacing the weather stripping, it just wouldn't stay in place anymore so I got new ones for both sides and haven't had a leak since (well, I have a drip in the rear window, but nothing coming in on the passenger front floorboard anymore).

I talked with the Glass Doctor, local windshield shop, and they say it's not the windshield because the actual hole in the firewall for the air to come through is several inches under/behind the base of the windshield. While I agree with this 100% I've still got water pouring in the squirrel cage and fan motor every time it rains or the truck gets washed. Removing and replacing the windshield also invites the chance to break the glass and still may not fix the leak. I'm at wits end!!!!!! There are no GM service bulletins for this problem and it makes no sense as to how water gets up under and inside this area of the cowl, but it does. I have even removed the mounts for the factory luggage rack and siliconed around the holes then replaced the brackets. Water only enters while spraying it on the windshield and the truck is sitting still. Tomorrow I'm going to tape up the complete outside of the windshield ( It's raining today) and spray it down again and see what happens. IF the windshield is taped up and no water comes in then maybe this can justify to R/R the windshield. Anyone got any other suggestions??

TTT, my damn passenger floor is PUDDLED with water. It happened the last time it rained, but I thought I left the window cracked. I'll check the glove box area. Piece of ****.

Behind seat

Underneath the passenger carpet

SOAKED. There is a black piece of plastic above ^^^ (under glove box) and it has a spongy materiel under it, it was soaked half way up but dry after that. The carpet on the back of the cab (behind seats) is dry. Carpet on door is dry, the pockets on the door are dry. ???

Soooooooo...after some searching this seems like a not so common but not unheard of problem...any suggestions? I think this weekend I'm going to pull out a lot of the interior and have someone garden hose it

I'm going to look like an ass lol but it's the only way to find the location or any clue to the location of this leak. I've eliminated the rear window because all the carpet on the backside is dry, the water was probably gravity fed to the rear of the cab because it's parked on an incline. The door seal/weather stripping or whatever seems good, so I'm suspecting the windshield cowl area. The plastic part on the floor board under the carpet (it's above the area of 2nd pic I took, where the floor board angles upward) weirds me out, because the spongy thing under it was only soaked half the way up...I hate shit like this trouble shooting sucks. I just know the door carpet and pockets were bone dry, but there was water on the lower door jam (as seen in pic #1).

 

I also dropped the glove box when I discovered this, everything around it was dry.

Washed the truck yesterday, everything was dry, carpet was barely damp. When I was done I opened the passenger door and there were a few drops of soapy water on this plastic floor trim

 

 

 

That means it's getting past the door seal. I ensured that the door was fully shut and windows up.

At least you know where it is coming from. Now you can focus on the door. Check the alignment, door gaps ,etc. Then check the condition of the seal.

well i had the same problem and it ended up being a clogged cabin air filter, in yours it may be the drain by the recirculating. try driving the truck with the a/c off for a while, if it keeps doing the same you could cancel that out. i had that problem in my 2000 silverado and 1996 cutlass, fixed it that way.

Well it's still leaking......... Pulled the cowl off below the windshield. The water is entering through the duct work where the fresh air/ recirculate flapper door is. I have seam sealed, with GM seamsealer, all the seams inside and it's STILL leaking. This area is actually under/behind the bottom edge of the windshield and I've resealed the base of the windshield again (Haven't had it R & R 'ed yet though). Flip down the glove box and upon looking just about where the fresh air/ recirculate flapper door rotates there is water dripping down while raining and/or pouring water across the cowl area. I've resealed the complete body seam from the wiper motor all the way to where the water dumps out just below the antenna base but to no avail, it's still leaking. Anybody have ANY ideas, this is driving me crazy!!!!

You've been chasing this for...what? 2 yrs? Tenacious! man!.

 

I had a El Camino that leaked similarly. Found out the duct bottom where the drain/separator was supposed to direct water out of the system was rotted super thin (fiberglass construction) and was leaking into the cab.
