Water Leak In Passenger's Floor Board

Recommended Posts

I've got water leaking in the passenger's floor board while it's raining (2006 Suburban). I've removed the black plastic cover between the base of the windshield and the hood, applied silicone around the "metal plate", mounting screw bases, and anything else that looks like it may have the potential to leak. The water looks to leaking in the area under the radio antenna base area. Could the leaking occur around the edges of the windshield also? I had a 93 4 door dually that leaked around the rear window. Had to remove and replace the window to fix that one. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

My 07 NBS Silverado leaked. Was able to isolate it, and was the passenger door weather stripping. They set all the molding in some type of sealing compound, and no leaks since (knock on wood!).

The water actually drips from under the dash just to the right side of the glove box and the triangular access panel that pulls out from the side of the dash. I've chased the leak for about 4 months and can't seem to isolate it. The truck stays parked inside and is only used on trips and family events so it's not outside all the time. I don't think it's coming from the door but these problems can be misleading sometimes. I've looked around the windshield seal now but haven't found anything. Prior experience leans towards the vent area at base of windshield??

your AC/heater coil is inside there, It could be condensation from running it or the defrost. Check to see if your drain hose is plugged up or if your cabin air filter is plugged( if you have one)

Still chasing this leak. Have isolated it to above the glove box and near the top of the firewall. By opening and then swinging the glove box all the way down the water is coming from right above the "fresh air"/"recirculate air" box door that opens and closes. I've lifted the black plastic cover from between the hood and base of the windshield to run water. I've gone over all the seams with silicone and it still leaks. What about the hole where the air actually comes in at the base of the windshield? What keeps water from coming in with the air? I've looked for other post concerning this but haven't found one for my particular model. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. THanks

I recently visited with my dealership's service department regarding A/C condensation and they told me they recently had a customer's vehicle in where there was a substantial amount of water on the passenger floor board because the condensation drain tub was plugged and it was going into the cab.

Look underneath for a small plastic tube and run a piece of wire/cloths hanger up it to "unstick" it.

Good luck

After months of wondering what was leaking on with a 95 s-10 I had, I finally tore the dash out, only to realize that the nuts which secured the incoming air duct to the firewall (I don't know what it was really called, I can't even remember what it looked like now) were snugged but never tightened at the factory. The sticky gasket goop stuff had held the duct securely in place for awhile (throughout the warranty period  ), but eventually let loose from water exposure.

The A/C drain is fine. It gushes water out underneath the truck. I have also blown out both the sunroof vents and poured water down them to watch it drain beneath the vehicle as intended. I've definately isolated it to the base of the passengers side windshield with numerous gallons of water from the garden hose and have watched it drip from just above the air box door for the fresh/recirculate air panel. It seems like it's coming in the factory hole where air is pulled from the base of the windshield but there has to be something to stop water from coming in with the air?

Upon dragging the garden hose back and forth at the base of the windshield suddenly water pours in down the firewall/climate control fan housing area. There is a black bracket that the windshield sets in and beside this seems to where the water is entering. Blew everything dry with compressed air and applied silicone at the base of the windshield and around this "bracket". Also reapplied silicone to the plate at the base of the windshield. Covered everything up with towels and plastic, it's raining now, and will see what it does in the morning.

My wifes Pos that she traded had to have a windshield put it in was leaking water into the passanger side floor board, it ended up being the windshield had come loose from the silcone and was raised up leaving a gap that let water run in.

Its the windshield. I have had this problem on 2 of my GMC's. 1992 and 1994. The 92 I put the window sealant silicone in it, gravity pulls it in, and the 1994, I had windshield yanked out and replaced took care of it. $130 for pop out and replace or $8 for the silicone. My 92 leaked on top, the 1994 leaked from the left side clear up to corner. All puddled on the floor board. Good luck

Thanks guys!! I removed the access panel above the fresh air/recirc air intake and applied silicone around the gray plastic "wall" that goes around the intake for fan motor. I applied urethane seem sealer to the body seam inside the cowl and also removed the A-pillar trim and checked the urethane windshield sealant. It all looked fine but I'm letting the urethane set up overnight and will break out the hose in the morning and start spraying again.

If it's still leaking the windshield will get a R&R, remove & replace. I still don't understand how water, if it's the windshield, can get that far under the cowling and back under the firewall. By lowering the glove box you can actually reach above the foam flapper door, reach through the opening at the top and touch someone's finger that has a hand inside the cowl at the screen covering the opening. This area is 8" under and behind the base of the windshield and there is firewall above it. Leaks can be tricky..........

Thanks again.
