Brake And Steering - No Power!

I have a 1997 GMC Suburban, 4x4, 3/4 ton, 7.4L engine. The other day both my power steering and power brakes went out at the same time! I can barely turn the sterring wheel when at a stop, and have to use both legs to brake.

I do not see a "booster" as I do on my 1993 Chev Truck. Does this model use a power assist for both the brakes and the steering as older models did?

Where do I look, what can I do?

Thank you for your time, and have a Merry Christmas!

The 2500 3/4 ton trucks use hydro assist brakes not the vaccuum booster like in the smaller trucks. Your power steering pump also provides the asssit for the brakes. Aparently the power steering pump has failed. No uncommon for the shaft to break. If this is a DIY you can rent the pulley puller from most parts stores.

Sorry but merry christmas anyway.

YIP - Bad pump, fluid leak, broken belt... The pump provides pressure for both brakes and steering. Sounds like you need a pump. At least it is something you can repair easily.

The timing sucks but I hope your Christmas is merry anyway.

EDIT: I misspelled Christmas... what a moron I can be.
