I'm not good at keeping it brief but I'll try. I have had this truck for 2 weeks and have several issues I could use some advice on.

1. Clunking noise when leaving a stop sign. Sounds like something is shifting around when starting out. I can't find anything that seems not bolted down tight. It doesn't do it all the time but It's getting more frequent as time goes by. Had it checked under warranty but test drive didn't change odometer reading so it was not long enough to replicate. are these trucks noted for similar problems?

2. Burning rubber smell when heater has ran on high for a while. Dealer couldn't replicate.

3. When idling for warmup the power steering pump seems like it's not working, 2 hands to turn wheel till it's moving.

Dealer shop ticket shows same mileage in as out so I can't imaging there was much of a test drive performed. It's under 39.000 certified warranty but I'm getting nothing accomplished.

Thanks for any advice offered.

TAKE BACK TO DEALER and talk to the shop manage and show him the milage and ask him why it wasn't road tested all vecs should be drivin at least 6 miles. Then take the MANAGE on a road test and dulpicate the isues. It's all about CSI.

I have had my Silverado for almost a year, and I have noted the same problems concerning the clunking noise in the rear-end, and the power steering not seeming to be engaged at start-up.

I have my first scheduled appointment for the truck on Monday, where I was going to bring these issues up to the service department. I am affraid the clunking noise may get worse, so I am trying to have them give me an answer before the warranty expires.

I will print your post to bring with me to show other people are having the same problems. Please advise if anyone has anymore info. Thanks.

Good luck, I took mine to dealer and they couldn't replicate the noise. I got GM in Michigan involved I'm taking it back to dealer Wednesday. I'm doing the driving and it will make the noise before he gets back to dealership. Don't give up. They claim no-body else has noted this problem so if others are having it they should return vehicle to dealer for repairs and DON'T GIVE UP.

hi,i agree with rodger, buthe smell maybe the theater fan module at the connector melting,-comman-,the noise ,if its a sqwock ( bad spelling i know),possible dry splines on rear driveshaft on slip yoke that goes into t case ,"special lubricant" from GM is the fix or a nickel plated slip yoke, try the lube inside the slip yoke first ,good luck friend,

I dropped the truck at the dealer wednesday evening and took the mechanic for a ride. It made all the noises i said it had been making. The mechanic sounded very experienced and said he may need to keep it overnight to find and fix everything.

Thursday evening I talked to the shop foreman and he went to the shop and asked the mechanic if he wqs near done. I could hear him in the background as he was answering shop foremans questions and foreman was telling me what mechaninc was telling him. Here's what I know so far. The mechanic said that he is replacing the gearbox for a bigger one, He is replacing the yoke and one u-joint, He is replacing the Intermediate steering shaft, He is going to try to adjust the pressure on the power steering pump but will replace it if needed, He found some kind of door in the heater system not working correctly which caused a board to partially melt and he's replacing that also. It's been in mechanics bay and being worked on all day and it's not done yet. Hopefully I'll get it back tomorrow after work. I'm pretty happy that they are attempting to correct a lot of things that they have found wrong. I'm sure glad it's under certified warranty as it doesn't sound like it's going to be a cheap fix.

So what are you guys thoughts on what I was told?

What's with replacing the gearbox for a bigger one?

Does all this sound legit or not?

Thanks for your replies.
