Another Drop Shackle Thread 2" Or 3"?

Ok after searching through all the drop shackle threads I still haven't really found my answer. Everybody seems to be going with a 2" drop shackle but aren't really saying if they have a 2wd or 4wd and if they are removing the factory blocks or not and alot of the before and after shots don't help to much with out a tape measure next to the fender. So my question is should I go with Groundforce 2" drop shackles and remove the blocks or go with Belltech 3" drop shackles which also require removing the factory blocks to achieve a truly level stance? I measured the middle of the fenders today and the front fender stands 36" and the rear is 38 6/8" it is a 07 4wd z71

I have a 2WD and I used the DJM 2" drop-shackle to lower (and level, though unimportant to me) the bed. The DJM said they also were a 2"-3" drop, but removing the block was necessary for the 3rd inch and I didn't.

 

On my 2WD the xtra 1" higher in the rear is really not worth the xtra work with the ubolts. In your case, you might actually lower the bed BELOW the front with block removal.

 

IMO, if I wanted to lower the bed, I would just do the shackle and see what I thought. I wanted the additional spring range for my moderate loading and left it in. That may or may not be a consideration for you.

stupid question, does the shackles hurt the angle of the driveshaft, u-joint and/or yoke? I was wondering the same thing about the drop but at the same time it got me thinking about a few other things that I had not considered....

hmmmmmm good to know......I would go with the 2" drop and then measure and then see how close it comes to the final result that you are looking for....

It has the same range and motion, however it will effect your pinion angle. Some trucks get vibrations...some dont. Just remember to grease everything up during install, and DONOT tighten the bolts until the truck is back on the ground and under its own weight...and even them dont overtighten.

I did Beltech 2 inch shackles on the rear of my truck. If they had been 3 inch they would not have fit. The 2 inchers barely have enough room to move... any longer would hit the bed.

 

At least thet is how my GMT900 truck was. Might be different on other trucks.

It has the same range and motion, however it will effect your pinion angle. Some trucks get vibrations...some dont. Just remember to grease everything up during install, and DONOT tighten the bolts until the truck is back on the ground and under its own weight...and even them dont overtighten.

 

 

Good advice on the grease and bolt tightening. :lol: But as far as range and motion, a 2" drop would represent the loss of spring travel that a 500lb load would. Certainly within the load carrying design capacity. Without adding leafs, are you telling me the dropped truck in your sig would hold 1600 lbs? And the frame not be sitting on the diff, that is.

The 3" Belltech shackles that I am looking at are exclusivley for the GMT900 http://www.stylintrucks.com/parts.aspx?cat...p;partid=533831

 

in the instructions on that ... it states that you have to modify the seam for the bed (they say for a F150 but it is the same on the new silverados) ...

 

but also in the note on that site they mention having to remove the factory blocks ... so i am still iffy on what those would actually do .. if it is a 3" shackle .... then doing that and removing the block would give you about 4" ... i would wager to say that is just a shackle that gives you a little over 2" and the rest comes from the removal of the block

Yeah, I think I'll probably go for the Groundforce but i'm going to take out the blocks just becuase I don't haul heavy weight if any at all and I think that is the main reason why people who are doing the 2" drop aren't getting the full drop.

when we did the 2" shackles in mine .. it dropped almost a full 2" ... and they were DJM peices ... with the blocks removed it would make it closer to 3" ...

That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.

Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
