warreng Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Just put a set of 285/70/17 BF G Allterain A/T KO's on my stock 06 1500 silverado.... Wondering what tire pressuer I should run on road???
Ranger Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 35-40 depending on what kind of ride you like...I generally would run 40 cause you'll get better gas mileage but it'll wear the center of the tires a bit more.
K.Jump Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 This guy above me is spot on. I have run 40psi in all my BFGs and got lots of mileage out of them. But if you like a little softer ride do 35 psi.
RyanbabZ71 Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 I run 52 psi in my 285's and 255's. I am on my second set of 285s (Had well over 42K miles on my last set). No abnormal wear. 35-45 was way to "soft" for my liking.
warreng Posted January 1, 2008 Author Posted January 1, 2008 Just put a set of 285/70/17 BF G Allterain A/T KO's on my stock 06 1500 silverado.... Wondering what tire pressuer I should run on road??? Yeah I'm with the last guy... The tire dealer had 30-35 in there and they were squating very bad and steering was awful I went up to close to 50 which is what another tire dealer recomended and it was a 100% differnce better ride better gas it seemed and steering was back to normal... but guess I'll jus have to watch the wear pattern real close for the few few thousand and see.. Thanks guys!
Ranger Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 It will also depend on the tire size and load range. I had my 285/75r16s at about 45-50 (2500hd, load range D tires) cause anything lower would feel like it was wavering on the road. My 31x10.5r15s on my Colorado however I had at 40 and it wore pretty well up to the point I traded it in with about 20,000 miles on it and still plenty of tread.

Warren, Sorry to get slightly off topic but have you noticed any difference in the way your truck performs with the taller tires? I'm thinking of going with the same tires but I'm worried about the increased unsprung weight of the A/T KO's. Did your acceleration or fuel economy take a hit?
dietz4ibanez Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 I usually run about 32 pounds, they seem to run better than way...

Overlord the acceleration on my truck is pretty tuff so if it did take a hit I can't tell it. As for the MPG I'm not sure yet I've only had them less than a week. Probably will take a small hit there just because they are bigger tires than the cheap Duelers that came on it. Warren
scottmoyer Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 The factory tires were a max load of 44psi and were factory set at 35 I think. With that same line of thinking, 44 psi is what you would run under a fully loaded truck and the 35 is when it's empty. To get the same load capacity of an empty truck with the BFGs, mathematically it calls for about 42 psi because the max load is 65psi. My truck was feeling a little sloppy recently and I decided to check tire pressure. I was down to about 35 on all 4. I cranked 'em up to 45 and the ride is much better and so is handling. As for mileage changes, I saw about 1.5-2 mpg loss when I had the BFGs. I was at 16.5 avg and went down to 14.4mpg. I was also at 36k miles which means I could have been seeing some loss due to carbon build up also. Michelin replaced my BFGs with their new AT2 due to balance issues and my mileage increased to about 1mpg loss. I recently did a seafoam treatment to remove carbon and I'm back up to where I was with factory tires, about 16.5mpg. You will see a loss due to the tire footprint and the additional weight of the tires. Now I need a tune!
hgl800 Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 A little of topic, but i am thinking about the same tires for my truck, just wondering if you had any rub issues? I am going to put a leveling kit on either way, just wondering if I can go with the tires first with no problems?
mxrider5 Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Yes the 285 BFG's will fit on any of the modern-day 4x4's. They are a close fit sometimes, but yes they will fit.
