Rocks Chipped My Paint!

I was behind a buddy and his car threw some rocks at me. I found 2 spots where the rocks hit and I can see the bare metal (its rusty looking). Should I go to a local bodyshop or GM??

I would and call your insurance, they are obviously gonna sand down and repaint the panel affected. Pics?

If it is just a tiny spot, say 1/16 inches in diameter, you may be better of just getting a scratch awl, cleaning out the rust in the nicked area, then dab several coats of primer on it with a tiny artist's brush. Let dry, then apply the matching paint, again being careful to stay in the affected are only.

Again, this repair is advisable for very tiny nicks only. Anything lager, and it may be a good idea to have it attended to by a professional body shop. Unfortunately, it will probably cost you least $ 150, unless you have zero deductible comprehensive, and I am not sure if they would consider something that trivial repairable damage.

But let's face it, this will probably happen again. I still remember a metal lined splash guard that came off the car in front of me , landed smack in the middle of the hood of my car and dug about 3 inch long groove right in the middle of the hood, right down to bare metal. I just touched up the area and lived with it.

 

PS: Tell your buddy to get rear wheel splash guards for his car. Preferably ones that do not come off.

Get some 3m protective film installed. Money definitely well spent. Do a search on it, I posted some pictures of it installed a while back. Rocks don't scare me any more.....well, except the really big ones.

I wonder if anybody makes something better and thicker than 3M film. For example, self adhesive, thin plexiglass that is precut and easily applicable by yourself to the front hood edge. That would be some meaningful protection against rocks. And it would not cause any wind buffeting like your standard bug deflector, or give your truck that "cluttered" look.

I would say get it do it yourself and make sure to take your time in doing it (like 4 hours or so)....save yourself some money. (ONE POST AWAY FROM 1000 )

I know a body shop that will do this for cheap. Is there a code for the black colour?

My son threw rocks and scratched my truck. To help the situation I punched and dented the hood. Years ago I would have freaked out at every scratch... after awhile, those things just don't matter. There is a reason they are called trucks.
