Differential Options For '96 C2500

I'm helping a friend look into some options for upgrading the differential on his '96 Chevy c2500 2WD farm truck. He'd like to have a mechanical locking differential to help with traction off road but the truck isn't worth much. We need to find something inexpensive. I've never performed a differential swap so I don't know what options will work. If anyone can help, we can try to locate something in a junk yard to transform the truck from 1 wheel drive to full posi. Let me know if anyone has some experience with this and suggestions. Thanks.

if its a truck that doesn't go on the road, I'd weld the spider gears up to make it a live axle. If it's an on road truck as well you can get a locker for it, like a Detroit locker, fairly cheap depending which axle it has.

here are some lock-right lockers

Thanks for the site link, Barry. Since the truck does get some road driving for supplies, etc., a locker would be the way to go. Is there a way to determine which axle is in the truck without calling the dealer with the VIN?
