Firewall Pass-thru Location?

Recommended Posts

I have PIAA lights and a new VHF/UHF ham radio that require 12 VDC from the engine bay, but I cannot locate ANY sound location to pass the wires thru the firewall into the cabin. I've probed, poked and prodded a few hopeful places only to be denied. I've twisted my neck and back looking for a suitable location and am coming up empty.

Are there any recognized locations to run some wires thru the firewall into the cab? Sure, i can drill and add grommets, but my luck i'd hit something sensitive if I drill in wrong location. Any and all suggestions appreciated in advance. We have a long road trip coming up and need to get these two matters resolved ASAP.

I want to run a didicated hard wire to the battery and not use the 12 VDC power plugs, due to amperage draw and the PIAA lights need wires ran from the in cab switch to the engine bay relay, etc.

Ideas ???

FWIW, its a 2001 2500HD

In a few snowplow installations in the GMT-800s I have seen and done

the best locations are on the left side. There is a nice flat spot about

2 inches square above the accelerator pedal on the firewall.

Also there may be the GM VYU plow prep access location already

drilled and plugged. It is located in the 8-0'clock position under

the brake master cylinder/vac boost units............................

Both spots are clear of wiring/obstructions on either side and are

easily drilled from either side of the firewall. Just pull down the

carpet/insulation and eyball closely.

Sorry I can't find any pics in the GM upfitter site either.

Easy routing direct to the battery from there!.............geo
