Nav System Not Working

I have a 2008 SierraHD with the factory nav system. It shows the vehicle moving but is about five miles off of where it should be. It shows that it has lost the GPS signal. The manual states that this can be caused by installing window tint. I did install tint but the system worked for a few days after that. But now it says no GPS signal. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have window tint and a working nav system? Does anyone Know where the GPS antenna is located?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Z

unless you have installed metalized tint (on the windshield), this should not be the cause of your problem.

Is it showing position accurately? There are frequent periods where the "gps" light goes away. This happens mainly when you are established on a road that is on the database disk (I have a disk for sale also ;))

It does not show accurate position. It shows about five miles north of my true postion and never "catches up." I will have to find out if the tint is metalic or not.

if it is on your windshield, it is very likely metallic. I use a ceramic product built for homes, it is not very friendly with curvature, but the right installer makes it work. It is a spectrally selective film, that is mostly clear, for IR rejection only, very worthwhile here in Phoenix. But you won't likely find it anywhere.

What is the name of your tint product?

Sold under the company Vista, or CPFilms. Information available on the internet IIRC. Be prepared, it's expensive, and it is not sold OTC, only to trained installers. But for heat rejection without darkening, it is awesome.

Ok, I thought I'd try this agian. Maybe more of these trucks have had this problem by now.

Metalic tint makes my navigation stop working. I remove the tint and it works again, I had nonmetalic installed but I hate the way it looks. I tried to find the ceramic tint locally but had no luck. It being clear, I realy would like to see it in person before buying it.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what did you do to reslove the problem? Any expiriences with ceramic window tint or possibly moving the GPS antenna would be appreciated.
