Blower Motor Problems, 1993 Gmc Sierra 1500 4x4

This is my "new" hauler! Sold the beater POS '83 S10 and bought this Sierra

Funny thing is I sold the S10 for more then I bought the GMC for! Go figure

 

 

 

 

But anyway, back on topic. The Sierra has a problem with the blower motor, it seems to work and function like it should but it's making a pretty horific noise like a motor with a shot bearing. I did a search and seen a few people talking about problems and sometimes it turns out to be crap fell down into the motor and it just needs to be cleaned.

 

I'm wondering if anyone has taken out one of these blowers and can give me a bit of a rundown on how to pull it apart? It sounds like the motor is mounted on the passenger side near the floor and I took a quick peak at it but couldn't figure it out right away.

 

Normally I wouldn't ask for help like this but it's -25C or lower here in Saskatchewan and the plastic is very cold and I don't want to be prying on pannels or anything and possibly breaking them. So some direction would be very much appreciated.

Probably similar to my '92 Suburban. It can be done but is a bit of work. If I recall (done it twice), remove the glovebox and go at it underneath the glovebox. There is a stud on the door frame that makes things hard, but I pried the bracket off of it.. wish I had taken some pictures... sorry (and it has been a few years)

Alright that gives me some direction as to how to go about it. I figured the glovebox may have to come off but like I said didn't feel like sitting outside freezing my butt trying to figure it out on my own

My suggestion (being from Two Hills Alberta, originally and therefore understanding what -25 can be like) is, before you do anything, go to your local auto parts store and buy the Haynes manual for your truck. I used to own a 93 and the book was very helpful!

 

Then, make a nice big fire in the woodstove, pour yourself some tea (or one of your favourite ales) and start reading.

 

By the time you finish the book, it'll be spring, and you won't need the blower anymore!
