2000 Gmc 2500 Truck Fluids.

Hi all: Newbie here. I have a 2000 GMC Sierra, 2500 with a 6 liter. I want to change the Front and rear axles fluids to Amsoil, and the Transfer case.

What Amsoil fluids should I go with?

Thanks for any help.

The rear differential is already synthetic and does not require changing under "normal" conditions. the front differential is 80w90 however it is good to go with 75w90 synthetic. The automatic transfer case uses a special GM fluid, stick with that. The manual transfer case uses Dexron III , so Amsoil ATF is the one.

Since you have a 2500, I'm sure you have either the "electronic" transfer case with just a 2HI, N, 4HI & 4Lo buttons or just a pull lever, right? Then it won't need the "Autotrac" fluid. You can use as is mentioned-Amsoil ATF for Dexron III service. If you feel you need to change the rear diff, I just went w/ the factory synthetic, although it's not cheap as you have to buy 3 quarts of $30 per quart fluid, lol, capacity is about 2 1/2 quarts.

For your front and rear differential you can go with AMSOIL's Severe Gear 75w-90. 5qts should cover both. Your owners manual should specify as to what fluid your transfer case takes. If it is the automatic transfer case then it should take, GM part no. 12378508 which is the Auto-trak II, this is what AMSOIL is showing in their application book.

First, Thanks for the replies.. It's a 2000 with 4L,4H,2H and Auto. So, I would use the Auto-Trak II fluid, correct?

Also, Does the rear end need any additive if going with the GM 75W-90 Synethic?

Thanks again guys.

Yes you need the Auto-Trak II.

No additive is needed for the rear differential. I wouldn't pay the high cost of the GM fluid unless you really want too. Mobil 1 or AMSOIL's gear oil will work just fine.
