Difference Between The Sierra And The Silverado's

Recommended Posts

I know the obvious differences such as the grill the fog lights and stuff but I thought for the most part they were the same truck body wise...Im being told that the Beds are actually different....something about the Siverado being tapered...go figure...well I guess we learn something new everyday

Im not sure about the beds, but the trucks are the same except for a few options here and there, and styling. On 99-06s the beds were the same, but they might be different on the NBS, not sure.

The dealer I spoke with also mentioned that on the '08 models the sheet metal is different between the two. He said that the Sierra was a slight upgrade from the Silverado. If there is a difference I doubt it is much, probably just another selling blurb they spit out to everyone. Just a side note I thought I would share though.

I have a new GMC and love it but other than some appearance differences, it is the same truck as an equally equipped Chevy.

GMC is not an upgrade from Chevy... in spite of what the marketing gurus want us to believe.

Well they sure as hell convinced me with "GMC, Professional Grade" and the Denali.....I'd love to have that L92 in a Chevrolet body and Z71 package. I love the front end and bed of a GMC way more than the Silverado, but I love the Chevy "brand" better. It's basically just a name preference I guess.

I always saw the GMC as the "cadillac" of trucks. You could get ALL the otions with the GMC but not all the options with th chevy. I'm probably wrong and I'm sure someone will let me know it too!

They do offer options on the higher priced models that are not available over on the Chevy side. I'm just saying that they are basically the same trucks when similarly equipped.

Gentlemen,

Gmc and Chevy are nearly identical. The GMC brand was created to allow other GM brands (Cadillac or Pontiac) to sell trucks without they being named Chevrolet. You can have a GMC and Chevy dealer across the street from each other. I was a fleet buyer for my company and found out that way. I used to buy parts for Chevy from GMC dealer because they would deliver free.

I just bought a Leer topper for mine and it even says so on Leer's website.

The 99-07 Silverado and GMC Classics have the same bed, so the toppers are interchangable. But starting with the 07 NBS they are different. And Leer's website even has a warning posted about the size difference to make sure you order the correct one.

I do not know what is different about them other than the visual styling, but it must be more than cosmetic for Leer to make a big deal about them not fitting each other.

Yea, there definetly the same, I think this topic comes up at least once every other month. Shape of the bed difference? Maybe... I can't tell by looking, maybe if we get out the tape measure but for the most part these are the same trucks guys. Typically the ability to custom order more things has been a GMC thing, for whatever reason. But make no mistake one is no tougher than the other, if you beleived the proffresional grade advritising than you bought the pitch. But thankfully no matter which truck you buy your getting a d**n fine peice of american manufacturing.

It's the same people in the same factories putting together the same truck.

Yes, GM is trying to differentiate the two brands with GMT900. different front bumper, grill, and the beds are not exactly the same. Denali is just a more optioned truck.

It's the same people at the same factories putting together the same trucks. The Marketing people would love you to think otherwise - as well as some salespeople.
